Pistons on N2O?

So now that I have a new nitrous kit Thanks to nitrous outlet!
what kind of shot can hyperutectic pistons handle?
I had nitrous on my previous Z and melted rings and a piston w/ a 150 shot.
I have just rebuilt my current Z with a 383 and a 235/242 .568/.592 cam, I put in Hyperutectics and don't want to pull it again and replace those with forged. can they safely handle 100 shot if I pull a little timing out?

Hyper' pistons should still be able to take a 100-150 shot as long as you don't have any detonation and the rings were gapped properly.

Sorry for a highjack, but I didnt want to make another "how big" thread. Im sure it gets tiring. Im going to rebuild my engine with .030 forged pistons. And its already a 4 bolt. Am I safe in assuming I can go with a 175? Maybe a 200 with a good tune, timing pulled, and good plugs?

I want to hide it in the intake, and will run a single nozzle. And the lines after the solenoids will be rather long, making for a "soft" hit.

the size shot you can run on a built motor will be dictated by the parts you use.

I am going to be hitting upwards of 300 on my 396. I am running a custom built Ross nitrous pistons, H-beam rods and a good crank.

Here is what happened with a LT1 (100 shot) and no timing pulled, so yeah, you might want to pull some timing

Ive sprayed my car and know of others that have sprayed with up to 150 shot.......never had a problem. I think something was wrong with your car. That was with stock timing and fuel pump. Only thing changed was the plugs.

I think its a crap shoot if you dont pull any timing with anything over a 50 shot. And for our POS pistons~ 150shot with 5-7degrees timing pulled, good gas(some 100+ octane mix) and proper fuel you ll be fine. Guys have gone 200 shots on stock motors, those dont live long but its been done.
JasonFace- how many times have you used n2o before the motor blew? Or rather how many bottles have you gone threw? Im asking because i think you slowly deastroyed that piston. I really dont think that happened because of a one time use.

looks like you went lean, not a timing issue

I would agree with that. The car had been feeling "slow" for a couple of months before that happened. I at first thought I was just getting used to the power, and it was time to up the ante, so to speak. Total times I used the spray, probably close to 100. Not all of those were full runs of course, but I was spraying it pretty often. I had the kit on there two years, and it's hard to lay off the juice once you're used to it. It just happened to let go about mid-track at LACR. Car slowed from my usual 12.25 range to a 13.5. If you look closely at the piston, it shows evidence of melting and breaking. I think I may have broken the ring land, and perhaps the igniting mixture rushing through the small hole you can see leading to the underside of the piston began to melt away material. The combustion pressure going into the crankcase pushed out the dipstick tube and sprayed oil all over the header on the passenger side. I was lucky it didn't catch on fire. Gave me a reason to finish up the 383 though
