Nitrous with a supercharger??

I have a 94 camaro z28 stock. Next summer I plan to have a 355 build to handle 12 pounds of boost - supercharger. My question is will it be safe to run no more then 50 shot of nitrous. I just want a tad little hit. Will it harm anything since the car with have a supercharger. A guy at work also told me 5-6 sprays you will have to rebuild the engine. I only plain to spray it once in a great while. I just dont want to blow my new engine that I plan to invest all my money into that would suck. Anyhting I must need to be safe?? Also what kit would be best a wet or dry??brand??how is zex or tnt or even nitrous works??

i personally know a turbo vdub and charged vdub that ate nitrous like it was gov't cheese for until a. the turbo was turned in on a lease b. the charger was rebuilt into a turbo engine, with the juice ...your co-worker is a window licker, if the tune is on and the fuel system is capable you should have no problem getting a lot of fun out of the engine

There isn't a lot of experience with blower/nitrous combos. If your motor is set up properly, the answer is "yes". I wouldn't advise it on 93 octane though. I use 100 or 104 octane unleaded when I spray on top of the boost. Though you might get away with a 50hp shot if the tune is spot on (rich, some retard in the timing, cold plugs). I use a plug with an "11" heat range and my static CR is ~8:1 and I also use water/alcohol injection along with very strong pistons that have ceramic coating on the crowns. A wet kit is easier to tune.

why not just build a motor to handle a bit more boost and put maybe 15#'s to it instead of 12#'s and a 50 shot.

Well, if you happen to be running one of the smaller head units, it's not always that easy to get a few more pounds of boost without overspinning the blower or dishing out $$$ to upgrade the head unit. Assuming the motor can handle it, nitrous might be a great alternative to additional boost, especially if you happen to already have a kit.

I realise that, but he is asking a question for future reference. If all you want is more power, then the easiest way in my opinoin would be to just get an s-trim or something comparable and put a few more psi at it. But since the question is can he run it safely, if you know what you want and research and plan properly before you build it should be no problem. Just remember to have everything up to task so that you dont blow something up.

A small nitrous shot makes a HUGE difference in the way a heavy car with a centrifugal launches. At the track (with slicks) without the N2O mine will launchs a little "soft". The extra torque from a 75hp shot at launch makes nearly a 2/10 difference in 60' and nearly a 1/2 second in the 1/4m. Much more than another few pounds of boost would do. With more boost, it would trap a lot higher but not be much quicker, from what I have seen. For a lighter car with a higher revving motor and more gear there might be less benefit from the N2O.

Considering the psi he mentioned, he may be nearing the limit of what the s-trim can put out without overspinning it. If nothing else, you definitely get higher AITs spinning an S-trim higher, which would get diminishing returns, per pound of boost. I still think nitrous is a good alternative and can be safe, if youre running a decent bottom end, and small shot.

Re: Nitrous with a supercharger??

I've sprayed as much as a 200 shot on top of my Powerdyne 6#. I controlled
the on/off of the nitrous with rpm window switches and had the spray come on around 3000 rpms(low boost) and shut off around 5000rpm. This gave me
additional bottom end torque and the safety needed as the boost level
increased. I only did this at the track and was constantly checking
my plugs for any signs of detonation. I never had a problem...until a
leaking nitrous solenoid filled my motor with nitrous. KABOOM!!!
