Nitrous on a Stock LT1?
Nitrous on a Stock LT1?
I was wondering how big of a shot a stock LT1 will handle. The only mods to the motor will be exhaust/intake/headers. I was going to do a cam this summer but I am considering Nitrous instead so I don't have a loss of daily driveability. I was thinking maybe a 75 to 100 shot. Also, what is the best brand of kit?
Re: Nitrous on a Stock LT1?
Many people have sprayed 125-150HP on a stock LT1 ith no problems. You will need to address issues like plug selection, timing retard, injector selection (for dry kits), fuel supply, etc.

Re: Nitrous on a Stock LT1?
100 shot will work out perfectly. Just step it down in heat range on the plugs and get a fuel pressure safety switch. Holley NOS kits are nice. I myself like the Nitrous Works kit. Most people on here like the Harris Speedworks kit.
Re: Nitrous on a Stock LT1?
There are people that are spraying 200hp on a stock engine.
I'm not SUGGESTING that, I'm just mentioning it.
Which kit? I bought the Zex dry kit for LT1s, but then again I replaced my stock injectors with new ones that are also larger; and I also installed a new Walbro 255. The guys at either Harris or Dave's will be happy to talk to you in great detail about your specific needs.
What's safe?
Well, it's probably a good idea if you start with a 75 shot and read your plugs.

Re: Nitrous on a Stock LT1?
150 shot for me. Stock motor, stock timing, 91 pump gas.
Put down 410hp/510tq with low bottle pressure. Ran that for a while and didn't hurt a thing.

Put a cam in and started spinning to 6500 and spun 2 bearings. N20 is plenty safe, just don't abuse it and get the right stuff for it. Now I have a motor thats begging for a 300 shot.

Re: Nitrous on a Stock LT1?
A stock LT1 will handle a 75-100 shot with no problem. As noted above by Injuneer, there are a few other things that should be upgraded in order to safely spray. As for the best kit, I personally feel N/X makes one of the better and more complete kits and it has good documentation as well. Either way though, a call or visit to Nitrous Outlet or Harris Speed will yield you alot of different options.

Re: Nitrous on a Stock LT1?
Thanks for all the input. I am definately gonna look into this some more. What kind of plugs would you guys recommend? I was palnning on starting with a 75 then working my way up to a 100. I don't wanna go to high as this is my daily driver.
Re: Nitrous on a Stock LT1?
Im running the harrisspeedworks wet kit with the mallory ignition box. As for plugs i have the NGK Tr6 plugs with MSD 8mm wires. I just put the kit in and have only sprayed it twice bue we will see how it goes at the track this weekend.
Re: Nitrous on a Stock LT1?
i have had over a 200 shot on my stock lt1 for a long *** time.... its about a 230 shot.... not sure on the exact size b/c i drill the jets my self.... my car has been 11.0 at 120 witha 1.46 60 foot.... only think i have done is hooker long tubes, 30# injectors, 255 intank pump, tune from pcmforless...and thats pretty much it.... and myc ar is not light either.... its prob about 3550 with me in it
Re: Nitrous on a Stock LT1?
I started running a 125 shot on my stock LT1 this year. For safety, I am using autolite 104's gapped to .045, 3 degrees of timing retard from my mallory box and 94 octane. Plugs looked just fine on the 125 shot with no detonation. I finished installing a racetronix 255 lph intank pump and feel confident it will take the 150 shots with no problems.
Re: Nitrous on a Stock LT1?
Hey, have any one of you guys tried the Nitrous Express LS1/LT1 Mass Air System or know of anyone who has??? I started a thread on it and no responses.... I want to get a kit but want something the really efficiant and works great!
Re: Nitrous on a Stock LT1?
When my LT1 engine was 100% stock, aside from a MSD digital 6, and colder plugs.....I ran a 150 shot (to the wheels) for a little over 6 years.....went thru way too many bottles to count
.......high 11's without one single problem.......as long as it never go's lean, it should be just fine
