Nitrous Setup Opinions Wanted

Hi-

I am considering going with a N2O setup on my 94 Z28. It is a manual with 4.10 gears (stock 10 bolt with a girdle) and a hotcam kit. I put down 321 RWHP right now.

I was considering going with a 100 shot setup controlled by the combination of a WOT and a window switch (to only engage between like 3000 and 6000 RPM. I would be putting in all the MSD ignition, window switch, LT1 harness etc. The N2O would be for drag strip use primarily.

Does this sound like a good option? Adding all of this up, the price comes in less than the cylinder heads and longtubes that are my other option.

Opinions? To juice or not to juice?

Yeah, why not? Nitrous can be a very effective and safe power adder when everything is setup correctly. You're already off to a good start with the window switch. I would also look into a fuel pressure safety switch, bottle heater, 1 step colder spark plugs, upgraded fuel pump if using a wet kit, upgraded fuel injectors if using a dry kit, and a purge valve. With everything tallied up, you should be around a thousand dollars including the cost of the kit. That is still much cheaper then a heads/cam build and it is alot easier too.

Juice it.......if you go nitrous it will leave your car with the same drivabilety you have now. But drop a second or more at the track. We have a 93 camaro in our group that has 193K miles on it. The car has full bolt on's and a 150 shot....runs 13.0's NA and 11.7's on the jug.

As far as the WOT and window switch combination...you can go with this style window switch....

and it will use the factory TPS to activate the juice instead of the WOT switch. You said you are going to be adding MSD ignition parts....are you looking at the MSD 6A or the Digital 6?

Yes The driveability is a great thing. And getting nitrous is readily available so it's not difficult to get the bottle filled.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. I am looking at the MSD 6AL with the Window switch. I figured the WOT comes with the kit so why not. I have shorty headers, I know long tubes are better, but they are big $$$ when combined with the Y-Pipe and coating and heads I was looking at, not to mention tuning...

I already have the colder plugs and 30# injectors instead of the stock 24#.

Question

So if I go with that style window switch, do I still need the ignition upgrade?

Which is better the 6AL or the Digital 6?

I am kinda new to making changes in this area. How about the coil? Should I upgrade that?

I think what Ray@NitroDaves is getting at about MSD ignitions is the MSD 6AL though being a GREAT ignition (i had one) it cannot retard timing if you plan to run for example a 150 shot. The MSD Digital 6 can retard timing for you when your nitrous system is active.....though you can do the timing mods in your custom tune, it wont be as effective as the msd digital 6 retarding the timing only when you need it, as opposed to being retarded a few degrees all the time via a tune. Plus all the goodies that come with the Digital 6 are nice. Hope that helped.

Or you can just get the Mallory 685 Hyfire ignition box that has a built in window switch, timing retard, and rev limiter all for around 220 bucks.

Your on the right track with the safety parts. As said earlier, get a fuel pressure safety switch. Also I would use the MSD rev limiter(soft touch) and NOT the factory limiter which cuts fuel. Not what you want under N2O. You will probably want to think about your rear end. It probably wont last long. Good luck and have fun.
