Nitrous backfire, a common problem.

Usually it does not extort to this level of damage. I still believe my car didn't have to be "burnt to the ground".

I've been reading your webpage for the past month or two. Unbelieveable!!! N2O backfires typically just blow the intake tube off. Must have been stuck open... normal gas lines in the house typically have check valves. Has anyone invented that? Is that part of the normal N2O system?

Are you refering to the saftey crew just not getting off their butts to help you out or what? From the pictures it looks like they just sat there and watched it happen.

Was that how it went down? That would **** me off to no end!

Sorry to see that happen to your car.

Eric

A N2O backfire is typically caused by too much fuel which will tend to puddle in the intake manifold. It will auto-ignite and explode in the intake manifold and may catch some N2O which will enhance the explosion. Most cases tend to just blow off the intake tube... on those rare occasions it can cause more damage.

If you dial in the N2O/Fuel mix you should minimize the chance of puddling. Many use spraybars behind the TB without any problem. Also, direct port would essentially eliminate this problem too.

There's been quite a bit of discussion about puddeling and if it actually happens. I agree that the mixture in the intake does ignite during backfires, but I doubt there's actually fuel puddeling at the intake velocities involved.

Update:

Insurance paid for some but not all of the loss. A little under 10K is what they are paying. This is good because it is more than blue book.

Next time I am having everything appraised and updated after each mod. Having the receipts does not cover all monies lost.
