Re: Nitrous and propane

The problem I was trying to overcome was the expense involved in an enrichment fuel as it appeared the stock pump could not hold fuel pressure/volume at the big end on the 11.52 pass.
maybe something is wrong cause my car still has the stock fuel pump and i was using a dry kit. ? all i've got is accell 30#'ers and an MSD inline pump.

Re: Nitrous and propane

I was told there can be a huge restriction with the stock fuel filter. Iv'e never bothered to check it. One guy said they all but lost fuel pressure with a dirty fuel filter. I'm going to get a new one.

Re: Nitrous and propane

a dirty fuel filter can make a car not run at all if its that bad.

i have an autozone fuel filter, nothing fancy at all, just an MSD $70 inline pump, and a brand new set of injectors for $50...

Re: Nitrous and propane

You sprayed the 150 dry with just the stock pump or with the inline pump installed? Did you monitor or have you ever monitored O2s while spraying?

The problem I see is dips in the O2 readings. Everything's fine at .9 then they drop off .8, .6, .5, .2, .1....then back up again. Most always happens at the track (full pass). I usually have good luck testing on the street (never a full pass and not with the slicks, ie not fully loaded). You really can't tell from the drivers seat, just in the data. Believe me, I've been waiting for it to nose over.

Where you get 30# ers for 50 bucks. I'll take em.

Weighed the car at lunchtime. Remember the car has functional AC, PW, PDL, Cruise, Tilt, Air Bags, ABS, PB, PS, Blah.....nothing that's enjoyable removed.

3300 pounds.

Re: Nitrous and propane

Had you been running your setup as a wet kit, I doubt you would have had a problem with your stock fuel pump (assuming the stocker is in good working condition w/ an unclogged fuel filter). I sprayed numerous 150 shot passes on my car w/ minor bolt-on's w/ a bone stock fuel system. I wouldn't dare try that w/ a dry kit though (as you have seen doesn't work), and I had to upgrade to an intank 255lph unit when I did the cam and ported heads (got it for $90 brand new....not a big investment).

Propane does sound interesting though. I bet that poor rear end is screaming for mercy w/ that kind of 60'!!!

Re: Nitrous and propane

Ever log any data? I'd like to see it. I've done it more than once, and I don't recommend it (it works, just not well).

I did put a new fuel filter in, but it's winter here so I'm done for the year. We'll see in the spring.

If I went wet I'd need the fuel pump. The whole point was to avoid the cost of the pump. Then it doesn't seem like anyone would be learning about propane, what fun would that be?

On the rear end issue, maybe it'll break, maybe it will not. Most of the fast guys say high 10s low 11s. When it breaks I'll probably go 12 bolt or hand built 10 bolt from an 8.5 inch unit.

I logged a lot of runs + ran a fuel pressure gauge; never had an issue w/ a 150 shot internally stock (ran upper 11's this way too). But I run a wet kit; I wouldn't try running just the stock pump on a dry kit.
