Nitrous Noid sticking open? HELP
Nitrous Noid sticking open? HELP
Hi guys,
I tried hitting my custom dual nozzle setup today, and I figure it to be around a 100 shot since I dont have a bottle heater. Anyhow, I hit it at 3000, carried it to 5000, and then let off and coasted in neutral. However my engine started reving up to 5000 rpm on it's own!
It would drop a little, rev back up to 5k, all this with the car coasting in neutral. I tried disarming the nitrous switch which did nothing. I had to shut the car off to kill the revs. Did my noid stick open on such a short (like 1 second) spray? The noid in question is a NOS super Pro shot (not a little power shot) which should be good for up to 400 HP. I do have a Nitrous filter inline before the solenoid.
I need to know what's up soon since I would like to run the Nitrous with my combo at the track tomorow.
Thanks!

You may not have a nitrous solenoid problem. The problem may exist in the TPS sensor. I had a similare problem before when I had a nitrous backfire and it came thru the intake and bent the throttle body blades and killed the TPS sensor. It did the same thing you explain. I would check your TPS sensor and check out the throttle body blades.
If your solenoid stuck open and the car was in neutral the motor would free rev fast and more than likely over rev and melt a piston or bend a valve it you didn't catch it in time.

I forgot to mention that when I restarted the car with the bottle closed, everything was fine - the idle was holding rock solid at 800 immediately after restart. I will visually inspect the throttle blades and scan the car to check the TPS.
Thanks for the tips. any other ideas guys?

Idont think the pressure was high. the bottle is full, but I have no bottle heater or blanket, and the weather was cool outside (around 60-70 F).
Another thing, the solenoid is nearly new and has only had maybe 2 bottles of nitrous through it. I will check the nitrous filter and make sure it's still good.
