Need help on zex LT-1 install
Need help on zex LT-1 install
Im very confused on how this whole fuel line works with the control unit. From reading this guide online it looks like i should need 2 vacuum lines and then i dont use a shark nozzle because the fuel pressure changes and only nitrous sprays in the intake. I need to check again but im preetty sure that i dont have any vaccuum lines in my zex kit and i do have a shark nozzle. Please help me, im struggling

Hi Bill,
I am not an expert on ZEX, however I did just install their kit successfully on my 96 Trans Am, so I'll try and help.
You should have 3 lines of tubing: 2 of them should say "Goodyear" on them (mine did), those are the vaccuum lines. 1 of them I can't remember what it says but it may say "for fuel" on there somewhere, it's the one that's different from the other 2. The hole diameters are different as well and I believe the vaccuum lines won't fit over the fuel pump nozzles so you'll know you've got the wrong ones at some point
.
You're correct that only nitrous sprays into the intake. The ZEX kit is a dry kit, so you're not shooting in fuel with the nitrous like a wet kit. The ZEX kit works by adjusting the fuel flow based on the bottle pressure. It siphons a little of the nitrous off at the NMU to estimate how much nitrous line pressure you're getting so that it in turn can clamp down on the vaccuum line to the fuel pressure regulator to increase the fuel pressure to the injectors (if needed).
Make sure you've got all your parts and hoses/tubing there, check all the smaller boxes inside the main box.

this is why im confused, ive hooked up wet kits before and the stuff in my zex kit IS WET KIT STUFF, i didnt get any rubber tubing like the directions say, however i do have the shark nozzle that the nitrous and fuel connect to and spray in together...its like its half wet and half dry kit or something...we are making it a wet kit and goign to try and just tap into my fuel rail and get some rubber tubing from advance auto and connect that, the module has lines to make it a wet kit, quite wierd
That's strange, looking at ZEX's web site, they only sell 1 type of kit - dry - for GM cars:
http://www.zex.com/store/merchant.mv...ct_Code=GM-Kit
And then if you just look at what their kits include in general, I don't see any wet kit parts

Where did you guys get these kits from? Did you get them used from someplace?

I have been to their site many times and have looked at what they say their "kits" include...but i dont have any rubber hoses, i have enough braded lines and a T fitting to make it a wet kit...and the shark nozzle that combines them, ONLY usable for a wet system and it even says zex on it...its confused me for a few days now, but i finally got most of it done, the fuel routing was a total PITA and took a trip to advance auto and a lot of thinking
, but all i have left is the wiring and setting up the switches, hopefully i finish tomorrow, if the lines were longer i wouldnt have to go buy new ones to keep it stealthy. LT-1's are a pain for tapping into the fuel line...gues i have to wait till its wired just to be positive that it works

Wow...man, your making this really complicated. Did you buy a used kit off someone?? If you did, maybe they screwed you over and put half their old kit parts in or something?!?!? To me...it sounds like you got a homemade/pieced together kit. Kit should have come with everything, bottle, brackets, switch, the hoses(which, wasnt long enough...i had to get about 8ft of it extra and cut my own lengths), inline fuel pump, its bracket, NUM, 2 lengths of braided line, N2O dry shot nozzle(purple), fitting for the nozzle, nuts/bolts/screws/twistyties, wires, even a TAP for making a tap into metal intake if you had to. If you kit didt come with all this, then you got screwed somewhere. Not too mention, youll want need a purge it, heater and opener. I got pics of my Zex setup on my website. FWIW...my zex nozzle doesnt say anyting on it. My kit is the real deal. I was one of the first LT1s with zex kit.

As for the "where to get fuel from". Your not really getting fuel anywhere. I use my schrader valve for my electric fuel pressure gague...no for the nitrous. The NMU takes the N2O pressure and bleeds some of it off(like mentioned above) into the FPR vaccume line. This causes more fuel to be added via the fuel injectors...in relation to bottle pressure. All you do is take and disconnect the end of the vaccume line that connects to the passanger side intake manifold(from the FPR) and attach it to oneof the outlets on the NMU. That outlet is named, i foget what its called. Then, you run the other length of hose from the other prong/outlet on the NUM to the port on the intake that the line from the FPR was originally connected too. If you have the Zex directions, it basically says all that. I installed mine problem free in like 3 days...but as you can see on my site, I did lots more than just the basic kit.

I bought my Kit from TNT, it came with enough braded hoses to set up a wet kit, i also got the tap to set in a dry nozzle, however I DO HAVE the shark nozzle which can only be used for a wet kit, that has zex printed on it. It has to be a wet kit, anyways im going to buy somelonger hoses and hopefully finish the installation on monday. Then we will see how it works. P.S. I did not get a fuel pump either

Can you please send/scan a pic of that nozzle and email it too me? I would like to see it. I have NEVER heard of such a thing made by zex. Let us know how it works. Something is very strange here....
I dont have apic of the nozzle, but i do have the free booklet the guy from TNT gave me to buy more zex stuff. And in the book one whole page says ZEX WET KITS and the next page is the dry kits. So apparently zex now has wet kits...i dont no how to post pictures on here or i could show you the whole kit.

HOLY ****....I didnt think to search the net. There is a Zex Wet kit....seem to be for every car also that they currently sell kits for. I wonder when these came out!?!? Either way, Im keeping my dry kit...untile you at least get a power increase or something out of it, I dont want to risk my intake.(dont start flame wars, thats just my opinion)
Wow, this will now end some of the arguement about Zex being ****ty cause its a"dry kit only". Seems, they found a way to keep eveyone happy.
Good luck with your install. I cant really help you, I got their dry kit and didn't even know about the wet kits existance till now.
