n2o gearing

how bad are 4.10 vs 3.73 for nitrous i gotta get rid of the crappy 2.73's and want 4.10 but not if its going to kill n2o performance.

Re: n2o gearing

I have always heard 3.73's are the way to go for an auto anyway. Leave the 4.10's to the manuals

Re: n2o gearing

Gear selection needs to be based on engine redline, trap speed, tire diameter, convertor slip, tire growth, etc. There is no "standard".... it depends on the specifics of your car. I run 4.11's with a TH400, and a high stall convertor. But I've also got a pushbutton activated Gear Vendor OD for running traps over 131MPH. What gears you need depends on your specific setup.

Re: n2o gearing

Dont go 4.10 go 3.73 because if you go 4.10 you cant step up to a 28 inch tire to compensate with cutting you rear fenders

my A4 and 3.73s with N20 runs perfect for the 1/4 mile.

28x11.5-15 QTP's fit without cutting the fenders/bumper cover. Did require moving the rear axle back about 1/4" to avoid rubbing on the leading edge of the fender opening. 28x10.5-15W ET Drag is a whole different story.

Is it true that nitrous motors tend to like to be "lugged"? Meaning having a lower numerically gear?

Re: n2o gearing

The good thing about nitrous is that it will make the power without needing crazy rpm.... Nitrous makes most of its torque at moderate rpm, so 3.73's will be prime..... I couldn't decide between 3.73's & 4.10's, so I went 3.90's.. lol... but on 150 shot, my car goes 11.20 @ 120, on 350 shot, 10.41 @ 132..

I don't understand this relation. Could you please explain whay a gear ratio would affect the size tire that would fit?

if you really want to go with 4.10's, id say go with 4.11's. theyre stronger and more durable.

No such thing for a 7.5" 10 bolt rear.

Im using 4.11s. GMmotive made them but labeled the box as 4.10s. Not sure if this is still happening. But they are a bit bigger then the 4.10s.
All i know is 6speed/first gear/nitrous/4.11s its INSANE. I love it. But you have an auto so it might be different. Im only giving out the "fun" perspective as i havent tried it at the track yet.
