n20 question

i have a wet kit and mallory box...my tuner said i should be ok with no timing pulled on a 75 shot...well i hit it the first time today on a 75 and pulled 6 degrees, had the window at 35-5500 and it poped about 3 times from 4000-6500...what causes the pop?

Re: n20 question

I was having a conversation with camzaro28 and he had the same thing. As he removed less timing the popping went away. I understand why you want to play it safe but 6 degrees is a lot of spark retard. My thinking is that you are sparking so late in the combustion cycle that enough gas goes unburnt out the exhaust that it is building up there and igniting. Hence a small explosion outside the combustion chamber.

Re: n20 question

yea i know..it was tyhe first hit and i could feel it...i dropped it to 4 and pout 100 in there...so im pulling an extra 2 degrees but i can drop in 150without doing anything else
i found out the popping occurs without the n20 also...didnt think it was the problem but i changed plugs today too...i guess 36 degrees of motor timing and .35 gap dont like eachother...how far a gap can you go on a 150 shot? can i up it to around 42
?thanks

Re: n20 question

mine does this without using the nitrous! this is a problem with the plugs in general not only on the juice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its a plug question...how wide can you go on the gap????
and what is the problem with going wider????

Re: n20 question

Because the nitrous causes the chamber pressure to soar the spark becomes less effective and disrupted. Closing the plug gap insures that the spark is strong and fat albeit shorter. That is why people go to iridium plugs and higher voltage coils to regain the gap size. You will have to take my information lightly as I'm regurgitating what I have read, or think I have read. I am new to nitrous myself.
