N20 and police....

Heres the deal boys....

Im 80 percent done with my nitrous kit install and i dont know where to mount my bottle.

I want to put my bottle on the driveshaft hump in my back seat. another dilema. MYbrackets wont let my bottle sit without touching the center consol lid. Where did u guys mount your bottle? Every time i race i dont want to get into my trunk and turn my bottle on. I just want to reach back, unscrew her, purge, and go.

And im unfamiliar with the laws on nitrous. Is it illegal or wat. I will put it on the driveshaft hump if its not, or in the back where the spare tire is if its illegal. I live in Orland IL. I swear its the rice capitol of the world....more fun for me...lol

I took out the back seats (noone could fit back there anyway) and mounted my bottle where the passenger side rear seat use to be. The lower seat mount puts the bottle in a near 45 degree angle and it is easily reached to turn the bottle on.

I have been pulled over a few times and the police have never said anything about the bottle being back there. I don't know if it is illegal, but it seems like it would be OK.

Hope this helps

Joe

I'm a Trooper in Indiana and I have a TNT kit on my 1996 Z. I have my bottle mounted in my spare tire well with an electric bottle opener. There are no laws in Indiana regulating the use or carry of Nitrous Oxide in automobiles. I don't know of any states that have such laws (not saying there's not!) but you might want to check with your local law enforcement agency, they should be able to tell you.

You need to check your individual state laws. I know Georgia tried to prohibit presence of nitrous in a street-driven vehicle.... see quote below.

In New Jersey, nitrous possession requires a State issued permit, under the "substance abuse" laws. They aren't worried about how fast it makes your car go, they are afraid someone might sniff it.
Georgia Nitrous Oxide Ban Legislation Dies - 2000

Georgia legislation (H.B. 1183) that sought to ban the street use of nitrous oxide systems in vehicles operated on public roads passed in the House but, due to time constraints, did not make it through the Senate before the legislature adjourned.

H.B. 1193, as originally written, sought to unfairly prohibit all public road use of passenger cars or pickup trucks equipped with nitrous oxide delivery systems. In other words, any car with a nitrous set-up would have been in violation of the law, regardless of whether the system was operable or not. In response to complaints from hobbyists and the affected nitrous oxide producing industry, SEMA succeeded in modifying the bill. As amended, the mere presence of nitrous systems in vehicles on public roadways would not have constituted a violation.

The SEMA Action Network is particularly grateful for the work of State Representative Alan Powell. "Representative Powell, a street rodder in his youth and a powerful member of the Motor Vehicle Committee, was resolute in his commitment to protecting manufacturers and hobbyists from a blanket ban and ensuring the continuation of legitimate uses of nitrous systems," commented SEMA Director of State Relations Steve McDonald.

Check out how bad mine sticks out......I made a bracket out of sheet metal to raise up the front. on page 2 of my page in the sig. let me know what you think. As far as the law, I'm a federal officer, so I haven't had any trouble with that!

I live in bourbonnais, 30 min away and i can vouch for that!

I have a few friends that are state troopers, and they said its not illegal as long as it isnt armed. i have mine in my hatch area but i also have a remote bottle opener. there are some pics on my site but i will post more tommarow. and just like FLYNLOW92rs said, the last thing you want is a cop asking about a monster bottle chillin in the back seats.

I also have mine where the spare tire well. I took out the jack and tire. Keeps it hidden, this also keeps me from using it on the streets all the time....
