LT1 Switch ideas

Im looking for an idea on how and where to mount my nitrous switches. Im going to need a switch to arm the system, for the bottle heater, and for the purge. It doesnt need to be hidden since the bottle will between the rear seats and there will be guages on the pillar but i just would like to see what everyone else has done.

Re: LT1 Switch ideas

In my Formula, I made a small box that fits in the door map pocket, with the purge, master arm, heater and remote bottle valve switches in it, plus indicator lights for the arm and heater switches. Not sure it the map pockets in the Z28 doors are the same, or perhaps mounted too far back compared to the Firebird doors. The space on the console is already used for the line lock and Gear Vendor switches.

You can sort of see the panel in the map pocket in this picture (the server with all my photos is down, or I'd show you a closeup):

Re: LT1 Switch ideas

I went to my local stereo shop and got some ABS plastic, black, that is textured like the dash. I then removed my ashtray, and cut a piece of that plastic that takes the place of the ashtray and mounted my switches to that.

The lid for the ashtray opens and closes without problems. If it's closed and you didn't know better, you'd never know they are there.

Re: LT1 Switch ideas

I did mine a lil custom, dont have any pics but heres a description. I got the harris speed works switch plate, but insted of in the ash tray, I took the ashtray lid off and molded a peice of aluminum to the EXACT size and shape as the lid then cut a hole in the aluminum, the same size as the switch panal. Put the switch panal and secure it into the aluminum peace wire it then mount it where the originall lid would go. Its looks great and works good to. The best part about it is that you dont have to reace out of the way to activate it. When i race at the strip it cant stick untill second, so ill pull second then lay into it. The switch panal has 4 rockers switches then a push button in the center.

I had the same question. I made an addition for my ProStick housing for mine. The blank spot on the left is where the purge button will go. Of course this idea only works if you plan on pulling the console out, like I'm doing.

Re: LT1 Switch ideas

Frank, you should have made the Nitrous (cold) blue, and the heater (hot) red

At least that's what I did with my switches....

Yup...B&M sells a seperate 4 speed gate plate. Summit or Jegs are the 2 cheapest places I found for the shifter.

Re: LT1 Switch ideas

The ProStick comes with it's own cable and transmission bracket. You'll have to disable the park lock cable to use a ProStick.
The biggest stumbling block about using a ProStick is the carpet. The factory carpet is cut out under the console. Finding carpet that wasn't cut was a little difficult. I finally found it from Nifty Pro Line, which is a division of Lund truck accessories. http://www.niftyproducts.com/nifty_c...arpet_car.aspx
It's molded carpet that matches the factory gray carpet, and has no cuts in it, which makes it an excellent choice to use with my Jaz seats, too. It's not in the car yet, but it's looks to be of great quality.

If you decide to go with a ProStick, shoot me an e-mail, and we'll see if we can make you a switch panel.

Frank
