Lifting heads

I have heard of it, but I am not sure what causes it. What can I do to prevent lifting the heads?

It is caused by high/excessive cylander pressure. It usually occurs when lots of nitrous is used with improper timing.

It can be prevented with good tuning, good head gaskets and head studs.

Right on, excessive cylinder pressure from detonation. You'll know it happened when smoke pours out of the exhaust. Upon head removal you'll notice that the bolts are loose.
