Internally stock guys, what shot are you running?

Whats the biggest shot you've sprayed? Whats your normal? And roughly how many times have you sprayed those?

For example, you have an NX kit, and have sprayed a 150 shot 10 times. You usually spray a 100 shot though, and have done that 25 times.

I'll be printing this thread out to give to a co-worker, so feel free to add any info.

Thanks!

(I think I should explain... I've researched nitrous alot, so I know what kind of answers I'll get...

But some kid at work, who acts like he knows his stuff, says I'll destroy my engine after only ONE 150 shot with stock internals, and if not, it will certainly be dead after five. Actually, anything over 100 sounds big to him.

I told the kid to research about nitrous use in modern cars, to look online at sites like this, and to find out since he doesn't believe me. Instead, he just keeps spouting ignorant BS. I've told him my friend Joe Brodman's car is just fine, after many bottles. He thinks Joe secretly built up his bottom end to handle a 150 shot, lol.

Anyways, I'm tired of arguing with this kid. True, a fully built up bottom end would be great, you could run alot of nitrous safely, let alone a 150 shot. But he doesn't believe me when I tell him there are thousands of guys out there in f-bodies, as well as Mustangs and other cars, spraying nitrous safely. I've told him about all the safety features... FPSS, window switch, WOT switch, retarding the timing, progressive, etc. My car has 25K on it, I'm not rebuilding till it's necessary.

This all started while I was flipping through my Jegs at work, looking at nitrous kits, when he went off about "naws". Yeah, thats right, this kid calls it naws. He says I need "stainless steel" internal parts, thinks my car has 32 valves, and all kinds of other dumb stuff. I hope he meant forged... lol

I personally think he is a moron. But he always starts talking crap about the evil naws, and about his dad's 69 Firebird, blah bla blah......)

My experience, with 3 different LT1 cars, is a 100 shot will live forever, as long as it doesn't lean out or use oil.
I tried a 150 on my 97 TA; only trouble I had was traction in 3rd gear on the stock GSC tires. Wasn't really comfortable with it, so I stayed with a 100 shot for the next two years I had the car, spraying 1 to 2 bottle a month

Most stock motors, properly tuned, can handle a 100 to 125 shot daily for a long, long time. With forged pistons, I would say 150 is a good limit. With some good rod bolts, and proper tuning, 200 to 250 is doable.

not that I use a lot of naaaaaawwwwwwzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, or anything..

Your friend must be of the "nitrous blows up motors" group... tell him that "nitrous has never damaged a single part, ignorant users or mechanical failures have!"

Lean = boom!
oil burning, detonating motors = boom!
hit the ol' button at idle = boom!
put a 250 shot on a stock Honda = boom! (had to throw that one in there! )

A little common sense and tuning = aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I'm running a NX wet kit. I've probably sprayed about 15 bottles with the 150 shot and 2 bottles with the 175 shot on a completely stock bottom-end. Like I always say, tuning is everything.

I have put 2 bottles spraying 100shot, and now that I have ET Streets I'll be going to a 150shot. I know pleanty of friends that go 150 all day long and some going 175-200 on a totally stock bottom end.

My greatest concern is not really blowing the engine it's the rear end that worries me.

30 pounds so far with a 100 shot

15lbs so far with a 150 shot(!traction!)

It's an NX Kit which is supposed to be rated AT THE WHEELS

STOCK BOTTOM ENDED 305 I'm not kidding

It's an LT1 Wet kit converted to a Stage 6 Nitrous Express plate under a Holley 600 Carb.

this post makes me want to up to a 150 shot! does anybody spray the 150 shot with a stock fuel pump? i have the FPSS, that should protect me, right? if i spray 150, i will do it for the first time on the dyno with wideband running to watch what happens. i currently am running the 100 shot and am running wery rich on the spray. i would pull an extrat degree of timing if i went up, too. i am currently pulling 1*. maybe i will do this this week and see what happens!

150 shot for 1.5 years on a stock bottom end........if i had to put it into bottle usage......average of 2.5 bottles a weekend. Usually dont race much from nov-feb,so those are the only times i really dont hammer on it.

100% stock bottom end, heads never been off.
I wouldnt even consider running a 150 with a stock fuel pump...just not worth the chance. I have a 255 in tank pump.

Now the post from Dirk really makes me want to go all the way up to the 150 shot too!

Hey Dirk, I couldn't see where you have your bottle mounted at. I have T-tops also and I have no idea where I should mount my bottle. I am considering putting it right behind my seat, this way I wouldn't even have to get a remote opener.

my bottle is in the spare tire well. the spare was no good when i started to daily drve with the welds. if i stay with nitrous i will probably move the bottle to the rear deck,or hang it off the roll bar.

A guy I know is spraying a two stage dry shot on a 96Z. His only mods are SLP headers, flowmaster muffler, cut a hole in the bottom of stock air box, fuel pump, afpr, front sway bar removed, skinnies on front & et drags. He sprays .067 jet & then as soon as he knows it's hooked he hits it with a .057, it has ran a 6.85 1/8 with both wheels of the ground 1.5?? short time. He has a 434 sbc waiting to go in when the LT1 grenades LOL.

I am spraying a 100 shot right now.

I've been spraying a 150 shot for about 4-5 bottles with stock pump, bottom and top end without the 1st prob yet. Wouldnt go back to the 100 for nothing, feels slow.

Thumbs up

Thank you very much guys. Good info, this is perfect. I'll print this out, and give him a link here as well.

I've even heard of a guy supposedly using a 4-bolt main LT1, internally stock, spraying a 275 shot. Hard to believe, not really. Does he do that often, I'll bet not!

Funny thing was, he thought I was some sort of Fast & Furious wannabe, and was trying to make me look like some ricer schmuck. He even said "I'll bet you don't even change your own oil", which really set me off. I've done all the work on my car, although just bolt-ons, except welding and mounting tires.
