How often can you safely spray?

Okay, I know that most people use nitrous for drag racing. But how about using it in a highway race?

Saw I was playing around on the highway and would be on throttle and off throttle, would it still be safe to use nitrous?? Or is nitrous intended for strictly drag use?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure how dangerous it would be but I couldn't see myself weaving through traffic with the nitrous activated!! I mean it isn't a turbo! I'm sure if you put it on once in a while when you know when someone wants to race you then it would be fine.

I would restrict myself to only spray on the track or maybe a freeway race. And then again even with a supercharger (w/ boost cranked up) or nitrous you should be using maximum safety features e.i. colder plugs and high octane gas.

I think the price of refilling the bottle will play a roll in how often you spray. If you have a bottle warmer to keep the proper pressure you can spray when you want. Its fun to waste some every now and then, but Im past that now and just use it at the track and on special occasions like when Im next to a C5 or a Viper

I go thru a bottle a month on average....2 during racing months and maybe 1 all winter .

I think that there's a big potential problem with overheating the piston crowns. As aluminum approachs ~1,400 degrees it gets very soft, which is not a good thing. If the motor were designed specifically for it, it would be one thing. But most motors would not stand up to prolonged nitrous use. Heck, at least with my setup if I started from 50mph, ten seconds of N2O use should put me at 160-170 or so, a lot faster than I want to go on the street!

So does this mean that a car with stock internals should not spray all the way to top-end? Is there a problem of spraying through fourth and fifth gear?

Do you have to let the car cool longer at the track as opposed to if you didn't have nitrous?

Thanks for the replies.

I don't think it would be a problem, per say, but if you sprayed all the way through fifth gear, you would be going very very fast. Too fast for it to be safe I think.

And you shouldn't have to let the car cool down any longer than normal just because your spraying. They were talking about if you just kept spraying like a nutcase.
