Question How much Juice?

I have a stock 77 305 in my truck and am wondering how big a shot the thing will hold without throwing the insides outside...
I have a grudgerace with a 89 mustang and hes done some work on it since I beat him last year..
Thanks
Ken

on that old of a motor, 100 would be pushing it. i'd say 50-75 max for safety. if you're lucky, it wont explode. if you're holding grudges with an 80's stang, u should go out and buy a late 80's camaro to have flash back car and driver tests. haha

I did have a 86 camaro(2 slow 2.8) that I traded for the S-10 I have now..
Before that it was a 80 camaro(422HP355)and a 455buick stageII
Powered 71 Z28...
I miss all but the 86
The guy I'm up aganst is now running 12.9x to my last years 13.42..
Would a 100shot give me at least a .6 improvement?
I also have new DR's on back instead of cheap 235/60/15's
so that should help some too.
Thanks
Ken

A 100 shot should be good for .8 tenths depending if the kit is rated at the tires and how good your tune is. All the NX kits are rated at the wheels, so usually a 100 shot nets you a second, a 150 shot nets you 1.5 seconds, and so fourth.

My 100 shot was only good for a 2.4 second drop and 18 MPH.

All or nothing man! haha I think it's safe to say ANY kit's 100 shot level will slash a second off of most slower vehicles 1/4 mile times. The Drag radials will probably let you spray right from a dead stop also which will do nothing but help(or break driveline parts if they're is a weak link). If you have a better than stock torque converter(2500+rpm stall), I'd say rig it to a Wide Open Throttle switch and go from there. Goodluck!

Thanks for the info guys.
Now all I have to do is get into the garageand start playing .
By the way does a 100 kit call for a bigger than stock fuelpump,
or can I get away with a fuel pressure regulater& a low pressure cut out?

You never know until you try. My pump has been good for a long time now with a 150 shot jetted really rich but then again it's only a 305 that makes 200 some hp to begin with so it's not like it's feeding an LS1 with a 150 shot, big difference. A fuel pressure safety switch is a must have gadget for sure if you're worried enough to ask how much nitrous an old engine can take in the first place. Goodluck!

Well it worked out real good.
The system I borrowed was set up with a 150 shot..
More than I wanted, And as it turned out more than I needed...
I hid the bottle behind the seat and the 89 tang got spanked by...LOTS...
I only used it for 3 runs, 1 test run and I ran the guy 2 times.
I hit the button just after it hit 2nd gear and held it to the top of 3rd.
He didn't know what hit him and my 305 lived through it
I took it out of the truck when I got home(I don't want to get addicted to it).
Thanks for the help guys
Ken

sweet! now you are going to have to worry about rumor getting around about smoking him and people are going to expect you to back it up..lol.

check your motor for blowby and tell us if there is any. i am interested to know how well those old 305 hypereutectics held up.

Deadcarny,
The rumor is getting around but I don't have to worry till spring now that snows on the ground...
By then I'll have my new cam, my heads ported, and my new converter installed...
Plus maybe a NOS system of my own...
You asked about blowby, I havent seen any.
The only thing I had to do is put new plugs in since the runs, and thats been caused by me running with the choke 1/2 on
to far on cold mornings...
I don't expect it to hold up to that much NOS and live for long though...Heck its been in the truck for 5 years doing daily runs on the highway with no overdrive, Hauling my travle trailer and othe stuff.
So its on borrowed time anyway And I keep borrowing more
