great price/previously juiced
great price/previously juiced
New to the site, thanks in advance for your comments. A buddy of mine has a motor for sale through a third party, very nice price on '97 LT1 rouighly 40k, with turbo 350 trans w/driveshaft and many other enigne mods. My concern is that he ran NOS sometimes during track time. I have been told not to buy a juiced engine but then i thought thats the same as me juicing a fresh motor, so someone tell me if my concern is valid or if it is not something to lose sleep over. Again thanks for any tips...
What are you driving now? If you've already got an LT1, I wouldn't buy another one, I'd use the money to rebuild the one I have.
If you don't already have an LT1, can you hear this motor run before buying it? Maybe a leakdown test wouldn't be a bad idea.

supplement to initial post
I've got an 89 RS 5.0 TBI, with no mods. So needless to say I am running pretty slow, I should add that the motor in question was only sprayed a few times with a 125 shot( i found this out last night), the engine has an upgraded cam and Elec. H2O pump, thats all i know as far as engine mods, the trans is a turbo 350 that is worked with a nice torque converter, the engine (in a) 93 Z currently does 12.7 1/4 times without the spray. I might add my winter car i purchased is from the same dude, I know the guy and have seen his car in motion, I just dont want to get screwed being an admitted novice.
It sounds like a safe buy if the spray was installed properly and the engine didnt detonate too much while being sprayed.
Are you installing this engine in your 3rd gen?
If so, it should move prety good!

yes, this would be going in my third gen. This motor is very powerful and the trans mods he has done, makes it hook up very nicely. Just a question to the above post, what exactly is a leakdown test, is that specifically N2O related?
Thanks
Thanks
leakdown test is where you hook up an air regulator and your air compressor up to the threaded coupler that has the same threads as your spark plug. you put air pressure into the combustion chamber, and if the pressure drops at faster than a certain rate, then you know you have (most likely) ring damage from the n2o abuse. leak down can also tell you if you have a blown head gasket (coolant bubbles in radiator or rapid pressure drop from leaking into other cylinder) or valve problems. u can listen in your intake and exhaust to see if you hear air leaking to narrow it down to valves. but mostly, if the leakdown test shows that you have bad cylinder pressures, then dont get the motor. a simple pressure test (uses the normal compression process to give pressure) would also work well to let you see if the rings are toasted. hope it works out man!
