Forged pistons w/stock crank, rods, how much will it handle????
I was thinking about doing a low buck rebuild and am considering some forged pistons along with the stock rods(peened), a stock crank(turned) arp rod bolts and studed mains. Could this handle a 200-250 shot with a proper fuel system? I know people have run a 200 on a stock short block but I'm sure their motors are short lived. I'm looking for something that can handle it in the long run. Also can that big a shot be handled threw a plate or fogger or would it be best to go with a direct port setup? One last thing I remember that 93-95(i think) had different rods than 96-97 which ones were stronger? This will be run on my 93 if it matters. Thanks for any input

I have sprayed a 150-175 shot numerous times on my stock bottom-end LT1. It's still runs great. I would look into getting some forged rods to go along with the forged pistons. The crank should be ok. Jason Warren is running 9.5's @ 140+ with a 300 shot on a stock crank. So my vote is forged pistons, forged rods, stock crank, ARP bolts.

Decent Internal Engine parts are so cheap these days, it doesn't make alot of sense to skimp if you're wanting to put up some big Numbers.
Eagle and CAT brand parts are relatively cheap, and will handle PLENTY.
I'd upgrade the rods at a minimum. JMO.
I believe Jason Warren has put somewhere in the 350-300hp range on his, with a stock crank, though I don't know about the rods.
Good luck!

the last time i looked you could buy eagle SIR rods off e-bay for about 200 bucks or so new. they say they will handle 500 hp. i dont know about all that but they would be fine for a mild motor i would imagine.
