Forged pistons

I have a set of SRP forged pistons in a new shortblock with only 10,000 miles on it with a hotcam, Grenalli MAF, Intake, smooth job on the heads, LT's, and TD's..

Do you think this is safe enough to run a 200 shot on or would i be pushing my luck? I know i would need to upgrade my fuel system, timing chain, colder plugs, and get a tune..anything im missing?

Sounds good to me. Do you have a way to pull timing for that big of a shot? Something like an MSD Digital 6 would be almost necessary. Unless you have some other sort of MSD that you can add a timing control to.

Not yet.. I am figuring out what i need first then in the near future i will buy the kit.. Just making sure my engine can hold.. THe 200 would only be every once in awhile..mostly 150-175'ish.

Re: Forged pistons

You should be good to go with a 200 shot on those pistons.

Whoa, I was under the impression the whole bottom end was forged. I think the crank will be okay, but I am a little concerned about the stock rod bolts. Unless you upgraded with some ARP hardware? With a good tune and everything I think she'll be okay....What kind of numbers are you making NA?

Dunno yet. Motor is still out of the car right now. I guess i will just stick with a 150 shot and run a 175 when needed.

Re: Forged pistons

youll be pressing your luck even on a 175 shot, your pistons take a beating, but so do your rods, when you spray its like you slamming them with a hammer, and powdered rods suck!! (i popped my motor on a 125 shot, but i was spraying like 2 bottles a week for 2 years)

Re: Forged pistons

the rods will be the thing to go. It is an "iffy" thing because you should be alright but you will never know. I guess if you can't afford to have the motor blow then I would stay 150-175.

Re: Forged pistons

This all comes down to the tune up.a 200 shot on the stock crank and rods with out rod bolts is border line but doable. The pistons are fine for that amount though.
