direct port setup
direct port setup
I did a search and saw that some people have some great looking setups. I am thinking about putting a direct port shot on my motor (that is going to the machine shop tomorrow) and had some questions. It will be a `95 z28 lt1 355 forged pistons, rods, and possibly the stock crank (any advice here is appreciated too). I want to spray ~ a 200 shot and be able to bump it up to 250 when I want to. Direct port is the best way to do this right? I would set up a small fuel cell in the front and have a separate fuel system for the N2O. Has anyone seen a build up of this kind of system?
Do you recomend using a N2O/Fuel rail system or distribution blocks. Where can I buy all of the parts I need to piece a kit together? Should I use hard lines or braided stainles lines? How big of a main line do I need for that shot? Any pics would be appreciated.
Sorry I have so many questions, but I didn't find any answers to these when I was researching this.
Thanks
Dustin

Can you send me that info also to Camarozz@bellsouth.net ????????
That would be great if you could get me a parts list. I wasn't sure if I needed to buy a kit or just piece the kit together. I didn't see a PM, but I have had trouble with them before. Hopefully I will be getting my block back next week so I can get this thing together. I ordered a set of forged speed pro pistons with the coated skirt. Are they good? They were a good price and I was told that their only disadvantage is weight (not strength) and that shouldn't be a problem since I won't rev the car too high.
I showed the guy helping me build the motor a few pictures of direct port kits and he said he could make the fuel and nitrous rails (logs?) for me if I went that way. Has anyone ever done this?
Thanks a ton!

dkeers,
some people make the rails themselves. I have heard that with rail on larger shots, some people were running into problems with the fuel rail taking longer to fill up and pressurize in time to make it to the nozzle before the N20 does. Creating a short lean condition. I will check to see what the cost of the parts and no rails cost. Best bet would be to buy a setup with distribution blocks and then have your guy make and tap the rails and then plumb into them. Thats if you are really set on the rail setup. That should save you about $250 over Lt1 rail kit.

Buy tonight I should have gotten back to all of you.

Hey I also sent you a pm but if it doesn't get to you could you please send me that N2O info as well whenever you get the chance to TorchRedZ28@yahoo.com. Thanks for the help

OK, you guys got PM's and sliver has mail.
It has all the DP info and prices and the aux fuel cell info and some pricing for that too.
The aux fuel cell setup is WAY SWEET and I think the best way to go.
Wild, the NXL kit was supposed to come out in June/July, then aug., now its still gonna have to wait some more. Don't know why.

Dustin,
Do your self a favor and reconsider looking into a different nitrous kit. Something I would recommend and this would only be a direct port system plumbed with hardlines. I have heard people running into problems with NX's rail system leining out on bigger shots on the mid to high end of the track. Some of the sweetest systems out todate are the Eddelbrock Billy Glidden system,TNT makes a very nice direct port system, and NOS Pro Race Fogger system with the stainless annulare nozzle I run a custome setup from Applied Nitrous Technology. All of these systems are for big nitrous power but if your looking for anything up to 250 shot and no more then I would look into something other than the kits above.
I have a frt mounted nitrous cell from Jazz mounted up frt of the car where the battery used to be and this system is only for the nitrous system. My fuel pump is also mounted up front and I use a Magnaflow Quick Star 300 dedicated just for the nitrous. If your going to make power over 250hp on the bottle then look into the kits above. Just to give you some idea of the power that my Applied Nitrous system makes with a 295hp tuneup this kit actually showed a gain of 385hp.
I can't say enought about the nitrous Kits Jeff Prock from Nitrous Technology designes. I would put my kit up against any comparable fogger that NX has and make more power hands down over that dog **** NX nitrous system. I know because I ran the NX's for a long time trying to make them work. But that's a whole other story in its self.
This is a pic of my LT4 intake plumbed with 1st stage only:

Well that's yet to be determined. LOL! I'm going to do some weekend street driving but also drag racing with it. I actually have a different motor on hold(Twin Turbo 447ci) that will be going into the car for season of either 2004 or 05 but for now the LT4 will reside do to a challenge/bet I have going on with someone else I only redid this motor to run for the summer make some 8 second passes and then onto bigger and better things.
If the motor will use it we are going to spray the new combination with a tuneup of 400hp shot out of the gate and see what we can get out of the chassis and go to a big tuneup of 600hp. Wade at ARE is doing the assembly of the new motor and I gave him instructions to get as much power out of the motor as he possibly can because we are not worried about longevity but just max horsepower! And right now he is the man to your motor work done if you want to kick everyone's *** at the track or on the street. But word to wise don't be in a hurry for your engine to get done quick, I have only been waiting since Febuary! I'm ready.
So the new combination so far is very nasty! The motor alone will make killer power NA! But then again having the displacement over 396ci with comp over 14.1 with great flowing heads and cam over .700 lift. should make good power. Wade knows what amount of nitrous the motor is going to get and he say's don't worry at all about the motor it will take it.
I hate the idea now of only using the motor for a month and then its for sale. I need to get the motor from them just as soon as they get it done because I have some people that need there ego's adjusted and fealings hurt.
But ya I am going to street drive this as for the nitrous system the first stage kit actually could be jetted down to 150hp shot. But for the most part the nitrous kit could either be race or street. If your looking for the power and trick nitrous setup that will kick everyones *** when it comes to nitrous power call Jeff Prock at Applied Nitrous and send him your intake, nitrous kit or purchase his, fuel flow checker, fuel pump and filter and he will set your system up.
Good Luck

What JWINN was saying about the rails is correct. The rails have a problem distributing. The bars by design have alot of area in them. Because of this they can take awhile to fill which can lead to problems. You have to fill a rail/spray bar completley before they work properly. It is kind of hard to explain in text. If anyone has any questions just ask.
