Direct Port nitrous questions??

Hi,

I'm new here!In the coming months I hope to be picking up an 1996 camaro Z28 eqipped with an auto trans and all the other goodies as soon as my settlement comes in.When I get the car I want to do the bolt on mods first like exhaust, headers, and intake, but after that I would like to get some sort of nitrous system.I was looking into direct port systems, but I really don't know much about them that's why I would like to ask you guys some questions.First would a direct port be a good choice?I live in Las vegas so would that have any effect on this type of system? How much of a shot should I get?How should I prep my engine for a mod like this? Will it work well with the auto trans? Is it reliable?Last question is this the type of system that shoots steam or what ever that is out of the hood if not what mod would I need to do in order to perform such a thing?I'm sorry for the lame questions, but I'm a newbie to this sort of thing and I want to do everthing just right!

Thanks,
DJ

P.S.
I found a 1996 Z28 with auto trans,t-tops,and power everthing for $7200 at a North Las Vegas Dealer the only down fall is that it has 96K + miles.Do you guys think that this is a good deal or not?

Remember the way your life is right now because it will never be the same after a good n2o hit But seriously there is no need for a direct port on a stock bottom end (block, crank, rods & pistons) because it is not strong enough to handle what a direct port is designed to do which is spray the living hell out of it. You would be better of to get a kit from nx,nos etc. Wet or dry, that is another choice that needs to be adressed, personally I've used the nos dry & the nx wet & I really can't complain about either. They both had there good points & bad. BTW the mist you see come out of the hood is what you call a purge (bleeding the n2o line of air). I suggest you do alot of research before making any sudden decisions. Later.

A wise man by the name of Vince once told me, "why get two kits? If you're just going to wind up building a bigger motor w/ more spray, get the direct port now and have that all taken care of for when you upgrade." DP's are a far superior system than the conventional nozzle and plate kits and once you have it, you'll never need to upgrade.

homer there has a damn good point.

you can jet a DP kit down to keep the stock engine alive, then you already have a killer system for the future. but if you cant swing the price of the DP (which is expensive) you may be better off with a single nozzle setup.

As far as the "steam" that is a purge kit and the steam is nitrous.

The stock Auto and rear wont like MAJOR abuse,so be sure to get a window switch to turn the nitrous off when the trans shifts.

If you want to run a BIG shot 200+hp you probably want to looked into a forged bottom end for strength reliability.

also check this page out, good beginner info...http://www.go-fast.org/z28/new_to_nitrous.html

Good points.....but one thing to think about is when you start jetting down a fogger too much the jets also get small which can easily become restricted by the smallest peice of trash or even corrosion. I still feel for a novice the fogger direction is not the way to go unless the $$$ is not a problem and he has plans for this forged motor in the future. Heads & cam cars can go 10's with a single nossle. Later.

agreed with fogger. the plate kits are the best way to go for someone just starting out. the DP is the best system around, but when you are talking about small shots, its overkill for the money. I would personally recommend the TNT kits. BAD *** and easy to install. I would also recommend the msd window switch, or like component.
