couple Q's, Nitrous 101
couple Q's, Nitrous 101
I'm thinking about Nitrous for my car, i've read a great deal about it and i'm understanding it more and more, i know how i want to run it and control it however:
1. I see some companies sell plate systems but i never see them on cars, all i see are the nozzles in the intake bellows, even all my buddies that use nitrous have the nozzle type systems, y dont people use the plate system for the trottle body? pros, cons?
2. With nitrous u need more fuel obviously, i have a fairly stock setup, with many bolton's and a HotCam. If i add nitrous, how do i get more fuel to mix with it. A buddy of mine has a ZEX system (i'm thinking of going with NX) and the guy that installed it just went into the computre with LT1 edit and turned up the fuel. Is this all..
When it comes down to it, i'm very picky with my car and i dont like other people working on it, so if i get it i want to install it myself and i'm not going to unless i fully understand every aspect. I've read all the Nitrous How To's, and Nitous 101 stuff so i think i know and i am comfortable with all the basics. thanx for the help,
Mike

1 more Q
sorry forgot one, would it be in my best interest to upgrade my injectors, fuel pump, and go with a 52mm TB as well?
Mods FYI: 95 LT1, T56, SLP 1 3/4 ceramic coated headers, Borla exhaust, LT4 Hotcam kit, LT4KM, Xtreme duty timing chain, no A/C, no AIR, BMR LCA's w/ RLB, Spohn Torque arm w/ driveshaft loop, and all free mods...

I'm in the same boat right now, I've got my NX kit on the way.
About the fuel, from what i understand, it depends on the kit, a wet kit gets more fuel from the schrader valve, while a dry kit doesn't take any extra fuel. Everything i've read points to getting a wet system, so thats what I did. The way it gets fuel, you don't have to edit anything, and its good for around 100-150hp shot depending on who you talk to.

My nitrous kit uses a tb plate, and I've had great succes with it. Also the dry kits get there extra fuel through the injectors. Either wet or dry I'd get a better fuel pump, if your going dry you will need to get better injectors too, by better I don't necessarily mean bigger just a higher quality one.
Some people have had good success with the throttle body plates & others have not. The only downfall of the Nitrous Works throttle body kit is I believe but I'm not 100% sure there are only 4 holes on each side of the spray bar? The NX universal wet-kit seems to be the most popular here on the board but I haven't personally used it.
An LT1 I would reccomend using a wet-kit which does not need bigger fuel injectors because you get the fuel from the shraeder valve, but it is a pretty good safety feature to get a better fuel pump like the other guy said such as a 255lph Walbro in-tank pump.
Personally I wouldn't spray more than 100 shot on a stock fuel pump but thats just my opinion.
I don't know anything about LS1's but I do have a few friends that have them and they are using a "dry" kit I'm sure there are a few people here that can help you out if you have an LS1?

Hmm a dry kit is kind of scaring me now.. Is that true that you dont mix any extra fuel with it? Nitrous not properly mixed with the right amount of fuel causes detonation.. i dont want that lol..
So would you guyz recommend a wet kit rather than a dry kit? NOS also sells a TB plate type system (i never see anyone use it), its alot more expensive than the other kits i've seen.. I was looking at the NX FI kit which i believe is the universal one you are refering too..
Also just a bit more info, i'm planning on using a 100-125 shot, i may stick a 150 shot on there just for one run down the track but it will be just that, one shot.. If i do Nitrous i do plan on using the Walbro 255lph pump, and some better (slightly bigger) injectors, what kind of injectors would you recommend? Also, i had heard once you do headers, exhaust, and HotCam + all free mods (i will have 4:11 gears as well) it is a good idea to upgrade to a 52mm TB, bigger injectors and fuel pump becuase the stock TB and injectors are good for approx. 400hp and i will be on the edge of that at the crank (not quite but close), so it might be a good idea to upgrade them especially if i am doing Nitrous, better to have more fuel than not enough right? comments or opinions on this greatly appreciated..
Thanks again,
Mike

The dry kit needs extra fuel also, you get it thru the injectors. by increased fuel pressure. That's why bigger injectors are a good idea with a dry kit.
You could use a wet kit and 100 hp jets with out any upgrades to the fuel system, but any higher hp level and your gambleing on fuel supply. Some type of data logging software would be nice to keep an eye on your tuneup.

Cool, i understand now..
I will upgrade my fuel and air, however what size injectors do u recommend based on what i have done (see above post)? Size and Brand name? i think most of u will say SVO injectors, however what size? I will also buy a 52mm TB and Walbro 255lph..
