Budget build up to handle a big shot of N2O

I posted this in LT1 tech and didn't get any responses so I figured I'd try it here.

I'm in school to be a GM tech, one of the classes I'm taking this semester, I have to tear down, and rebuild a motor. So I wanna do a LT1, but I wanna build it to take a 200 shot or so of N2O. I'm still in the planning stages, but I wanted to start getting some ideas of what would be the best setup to go with. I was thinking of doing a forged 355 with a direct port N20, and then a CC306 cam, and some head work. I have to do all the work myself, and the school has all the machines needed to do it, so I won't be paying labor charges. Plus, a lot of the stuff can come right off the motor I have now, rr, headers, etc. Basically I just want some input on what brands and forged internals to buy, and what kind of compression to run, what style pistons, etc.

Thanks very much!

Depends how long you want it too last. The "budget" way would just be a basic rebuild with some good quality forged pistons. Reuse the stock crank and rods but use studs for the main caps and get new rod bolts. Obviously, you can get a stronger bottom end for more $$$. The next thing to upgrade after the pistons is the rods. Lot's of people like the Eagle H-beam. For a couple of hundred more, you can get the Lunati Pro-Mod. After that, some 4-bolt main caps and a better crank. The Scat "cast steel" is a nice crank, and less expensive than a forging. But the stock crank should really be fine for a 200hp nitrous shot.

So, get some new rods and pistons designed for nitrous use and go to town.

I was thinking about the scat crank, and then maybe the summit rebuild kit. I think you can get some different combos with the summit kit. Budget was probably the wrong word to use, I just meant that I'll be doing all the work myself in school, so I won't be paying labor rates. I would however, like to try and keep this project as cost effective as possible. Thanks for the help, keep the ideas coming!

This sounds a lot like what I am planning right now. So it would be ok to stay with 2 bolt mains and the stock crank? Is the scat crank an upgrade or is it a stock replacement type?

I think as long as you have enough fuel and spark and don't get any knock, you can run a 200-shot on the stock engine.

I know of a few people doing this (one is on this board, an Impala running a 250-shot I believe).
