Bottle heater wire

I wired up my bottle heater and I spliced into the hot wire that controls my rear compartment light for my power. My bottle heater does not heat up very fast. My 40amp relay is about 1 ft from the power source. I'm currenlty using 14g wire.

My question is do I need to find a larger source of power, the current source of power is coming from a 16g, maybe 18g wire. This source wire was the only one I could find in my rear compartment. I'm guessing I need to use 10g wire for my source, but will using 10g wire help the problem if my power source is from an 18g wire?

IN my system, I also have the activation of my heater coming from a switch I placed under my dash board so I could turn the system on and off. That wire is 16g too. Does it matter if I use 16g or 10 wire on the switch wire?

thanks

you need to use a relay wired directly to the battery via atleast 12ga wire IMO.the switch side of the relay doesnt really matter as much but you NEED a heavy ga. wire for the power side of the relay to the heater or it could cause the wires to melt

My relay is as follows;

30 = Ground
87 to heater and the other side of the heater goes to +
86 to my switch that turns on the heater
85 to the hobbs switch

I looked on the cold fusion n20 site and they recommend the heater to be wired different, yet the above is how they used to have the directions for the bottle heater and it's the way their streaming video show's how to wire it up. I'm guessing I just need some 10g wire to go directly to the 12+ side of the battery and my problem will be solved?

Cold fusion N20 NOW has the instructions as follows
87 to +
86 to hobbs switch to +
85 to ground
30 to accessories

Now I'm confused!

yes where the relay switches 12v to the heater is where you need larger wire

Thank you for the help! Heater works great. Now, my problem is my heater heats the bottle up to 1500 psi!!! I have my system set up as the directions

730 = Ground
87 to heater and the other side of the heater goes to +
86 to my switch that turns on the heater
85 to the hobbs switch

There are two ground posts on my hobbs switch. I hooked both up to one post, then moved each ground to the opposite post with no results. It must be that the adjustible portion of the hobbs switch needs to be adjusted.....LOWERED so I can obtain optimal bottle pressure 950-1050psi.

So, how do you adjust the hobbs switch? I know there is an Allen type fitting in the hobbs switch. Which way do you turn it to decrease the bottle pressure?

Thanks again
