Unhappy Blow Up???

Gotta question here. Tonight I was taking a friend for a ride and was running the bottle on a 150 shot and it started to stumble so I got out of it imediately and when I did the engine cut of and then I noticed that my oil pressure dropped and the oil temp shot way up! Smoke was pouring out my breather cap and I couldn't keep it running after that.
I know what the first thing I am going to do is. I am going to do a compression test and see what cylinder went down. I am hoping that its only a head gasket but I fear that I might have punched a piston. I lost allot of power and it wouldn't stay running for anything.
What I am looking for here is some theoretical ideas on what else could have happened here. Check sig for other mods and also this was a stock bottom LT1.

Re: Blow Up???

I don't know yet I havn't pulled them. would that cause the oil to spit out of the breather?

Well i would think that in order to get oil to spit up into the valve cover then u must have a very jacked up piston somewhere for oil to be getting past those rings. Unless a blown head-gasket would cause it.

Re: Blow Up???

Sounds like you broke a piston. A cold header tube will tell on a bad cylinder. Try that before you pull plugs and measure every hole.

DID YOU RUN UP ON THE REV LIMITER?
factory limiter cuts fuel --- instant death for the nitrous motor

other possible causes:

Leanout 1. bad fuel pump 2. pluged up fuel solonoid/jet on a wet shot

Detonation 1. Bad gas 2. wrong heat range sparkplug 3. no timing retard

I didn't run up the rev limiter I had Ed set it at 6800 and I never went over 5500 last night. Lets eliminate the other possibilities of the leanout. Brand new walbro not even a year old. Don't think it was the fuel side of the system at all. As far as the Detonation side the only possibility would be the no timing retard. My tune from Ed is not set for any nitrous I have run the system before and it did ok on 75 shot and once before on the 150. I had just put in brand new tr66 NGK's last weekend gapped at .035"
Anything else? I am guessing that I either melted a piston or melted the rings.

Re: Blow Up???

Why guess? You need to get the motor apart and see what happened.

Re: Blow Up???

Another test to do is remove the oil cap and start up the car, if you feel heavy air pushing out then most likely a broken ringland. What about smoke coming out the exhaust?

Re: Blow Up???

I wouldn't start the car anymore, you could cause more damage!!!

Pull the plugs, drain the oil and go from there.

That is kinda what I had planned to do. just trying to get ideas for what to look for and see if anyone has had a similar experience.

Re: Blow Up???

I hope it works out for you, the car sounds stout, but if its time to rebuild then time for some forged pistons/rods and a set of LTs, car should rip hard
