Alright, my car is a DD and I'm a high school student w/ very limited income so a dedicated fuel system/fuel cell for the nitrous is out of the question. Also out of the question is paying the local $4.50-$5.50 for 100 octane race gas (who knows what they really put in there anyway?). Lately I've gotten really interested in homebrew race gas and was thinking if i put a mix in that bumped it up to around 98-100 octane then I wouldn't have to pull as much timing when I spray. Wonder what the performance advantages would be (if any) of pulling less and less timing out?
Let's say on a 150 shot you pull 6 degrees out ( 2 for every 50 hp ) that's a drastic decrease in timing. But if you were running 100 octane you could probably pull 3 degrees safely. I was thinking of doing a little table like:
E.t. - Trap speed - Timing pulled - octane rating
and comparing each run to see if there was any gain since I have no mod money right now.

Prolly wouldn't equal more than a few tenths but I like tinkering around. Using toulene each gallon comes out to about $2.50 depending on how much octane you are aiming for anyways. Only thing wrong right now is I need some type of scan tool/data logger. Gimme your thoughts

i am in a simular situation as far as the budget thing is concerned. first off, race gas IS NOT needed for n2o on a mostly stock car like yours. especially seeing as how you have the plugs and everything. why in the world would you take ANY timing out when you have those plugs? i run a wet kit on a car with a bone stock fuel syst., ign syst., etc. and its run 100%. no problems at all. i run no less than 93 oct gas, but it is normal pump.
you should be more than ok with what you have, NOT pulling any timing out, and using pump.

i pull 2° for my 150 shot,but i use 100 octane unleaded and tr6 plugs. I'm too **** about running pump gas and a 100 shot. Torco has a GREAT fuel additive/octane booster,works great,and not a homebrewed thing.

"Timing Retard
A nitrous/fuel mixture increases the burn rate in the cylinder, and typically adding a few degrees of timing retard is recommended for safety. A rule of thumb is two degrees per 50hp of nitrous, but this will also reduce the power generated. When I tune my system, I monitor engine knock, and retard the timing only enough to eliminate the knock, which is usually about one degree per 50hp. At the track, under harder conditions (actually pulling the weight of the car, possibly higher outdoor temperatures, etc) I'll add a degree of retard."
Relative to the person that wrote this I am a newbie using juice, but i still know my stuff. I think I'd rather be safe than sorry, stilled gained 10 mph pulling 3 degrees out on 100 shot though

Torco isnt over the counter,and this is serious stuff,like 4-5 points for octane. www.torcoracefuels.com
Friend used it in his 91 Z and went 10.3's with 93 and the torco additive with no problems.

yes, i know the norm on your traditional carb'd v8 is to pull timing out when using nitrous. however, late model cars with all of their computer controlled stuff, i just assume not to mess with anymore than you have to. ive heard that pulling timing out of our cars can cause more problems than its worth. if anything, id just change the plugs a little, but thats about it. ive been running my car just fine like it is, so i think ill stick with doing things my way, and you can keep doing things your way.
