I was just curious to see if anyone has used N20 at high speeds (130+). And if so, is it harder on your car than hitting the juice at lower speeds? Any info is appreciated.

From what I've heard you're not supposed to spray in Overdrive. It's a 'bog' condition as I call it.

You're supposed to spray in a gear that the engine will build RPM easily 1st-4th.

It feels like it pulls harder in higher gears just because they are taller and you stay in that gear longer I guess.

Never sprayed in 5th but have pulled to @7k in 4th with 4.10s which is @ 130. Past that it is hard on the engine.

hitting n20 at a higher rpm is safer on the motor...thats why they tell you not to hit it before 3000, that low rpm the cylinder pressure would be too high...at a higher rpm the cylinder pressure isnt as high and will be less hard on the motor...

i myself have sprayed from 40mph -6500 rpm in 4th gear with 3.73 in an auto...around 165ish...yes it was dumb but i trusted my walbro intank pump 125 shot plus a cc306, stock heads and bottom end...and the thing i worried the least about was my cpt tranny!!!
only thing bad about spraying overdrive is the fuel pump not being able to keep up, but i think a 6 speed with 4.10 5th gear is almost like a stock 6 speed in 4th

This is horrible information. You never want to spray in high gear cause there is an enormous load on the motor and nitrous only compounds this problem. I guarantee if you sprayed going that fast the motor is most likely detonating. Shouldn't matter what gear your in the fuel pump is either going to keep up or it isn't.

how is it detonating? that is caused by too much timing...the timing doesnt change by what gear it is in!

and i believe the fuel pump gets behind and more behind and more behind the longer it is under a load, thats what causes the lean and burning a hole in a cylinder

detonation is pre-ignition of the combustion process by means other than the spark plug...usually caused by a combination of heat and cylinder pressure.

This causes extreme heat and pressure to build up within the detonating cylinder....the piston is usually the weakest metal in the chamber and will be the first to give up the fight against this onslaught of adverse conditions.

As stated before...the more load you have on the motor the higher the chance of detonation....that is why you don't want to spray in higher numerical gears....

How many of you guys would spray their car at 3K RPM's in 6th gear cruising on the highway.....hopefully none.

it is not as much a factor of speed as it is the amount of load on the vehicle.

I spray mine to 130+ in the 1/4

As said its all about load. I have never known a race car (n20 or other) that went beyond a 1:1 gear. Chuck Seitsinger here in OKC runs 170mph+ in the 1/4 in 4th. (Funny story one time while dynoing and some punk wanted a taller 5th gear in his ls tranny because he was getting outrun on the highway) Yes taking my car to the import shop makes me feel special

If you can't hit the speeds you need to in 4th, you need a taller rear end gear. It just puts too much load on the motor. Remember your 10 speed bike? How some gears were really hard to peddle, same thing.

With 4.10s and my 6 speed would i be safe to spray through 5th? My 5th pulls as hard as 4th did with 3.42's.

I've sprayed 5th to 160+ quite a few times when I had nitrous on my car (150 shot). Probably wasn't a smart thing to do but I did it without any issues.
