I've had my NOS opener in for about 2 weeks now. I went to open the bottle today and it woulnd't work. I checked the wiring and the voltage to the switch. I decided that the switch must have broken so i replaced it, but it didn't help.

Later i tried opening the bottle again and it did open but the pressure was around 1,100 psi. I think the solenoid was getting stuck because of too high bottle psi.

Has anybody else had problems with their opener not working if the bottle psi was too high?

 

So nobody with a N.O.S. bottle opener has ever had the solenoid get stuck?

 

I had an issue with my NOS opener, sometimes it would work, other times it wouldn't.
It was poorly grounded, (bad location, very thin wire) and after I took care of it, it was functioning well.
My friend had a sticking purge valve, above 1000 psi it would not open. The solenoid was going, so he replaced it...
Maybe you should try rebuliding your opener.

 

I've never had a problem with NOS openers. I've got 1 that's about 6 years old and 1 thats about 5. Lot's of use and abuse and neither has ever failed to open, regardless of the pressure. I run manual heaters and both openers have functioned at pressures above 1100psi. (Now them little power shot solenoids, well, that's a different story )

 

got a NX bottle opener. Recommend throwing the NOS one away and getting either the NX or Zex opener. Something that emmulates a hand actually opening and closing the bottle, Not another solenoid in the system like the NOS opener.

Yep, the NX opener is a nicer piece, and if it was available when I bought my 1st opener, I probably would have picked it over the NOS piece.... but, the NOS opener definitely isnt a bad product (especially for the money). Mine have been funtioning fine for years. It would be foolish to throw one away, that you'd already bought.

NXz28 - if yours is malfunctioning after only 2 weeks, you need to contact NOS, or the dealer you used, and have them replace it.

 

I think the reason why it got stuck open is because the bottle over heated. I think that day, the temperature was over 90 degrees out, the car was sitting outside, then i turned on the bottle heater after i got into the car.

I'm guessing the bottle psi had to be around 1,400... That was the only time it failed to open. I've opened it with 1,100psi several times, without any failures.

Carefull about the 1400 psi note. they are supposed to drop the tank at 1300psi through the safety valve on the bottle.
I have a friend that had his car in the hot florida sun for an afternoon and did not have the blowdown tube run outside the car. so when he got into the car at 400 in the afternoon, he discovered that the bottle had blown, all over the interior of his car! Not pretty. Spent a weekend of racing and wasn't even able to be a spectator!

I'm not sure what the exact bottle pressure was, i was just guessing since the regular solenoids lock up around 1,200. I figured the NOS noid locks up at a higher psi. I though the pressure cap was set for 1,500psi?

 

Not sure if they range but I know I just setup my blowdown tube this weekend and the stamp on that stupid little piece of aluminum foil was stamped with 1300psi on it.
