Question Accel Ignition Timing Computer...

Is anyone running an Accel Ignition Timing Computer? Do they even make them anymore? I can't find one on any of the parts sites.

Accel ignition system can deliver over 40% more current to the spark plugs

Might want to look in to this more with Nitrous!!!

Isn't it getting more spark?

More spark = more timing right?

I don't think so. At ideal the spark advance is 19 degrees, which is normal for an A4.

no...

more CURRENT to the spark plugs means a hotter more complete spark. This means the combustion mixture is burned more effectively, therefore increasing performance.

Installing an aftermarket ignition system will not cause the need to retard timing, it does not cause detonation. Detonation is caused when the mixture explodes at the WRONG time.

Timing control...

Any suggestions on something to retard the timing? I already have a Accel 300+ so I really don't want to get a new box. Is there anything I can get to add on the will do the job?

Thanks

Yes check out either Summit or Jegs they sell a unit that is called Accel 375+ and this has some very nice features including a retard. I used to have the 300+ ignition and if I still owned it I would buy this box to go with it.

I've seen this one before. The problem with the 375+ is everyone on this board that has one can't get it to work right. Do a search and you'll see what I'm talking about. I e-mailed Accel to see if they would send me a copy of the install instruction so I could see what was up with it.

Accel also has a "Timing Retard Module" that interfaces with the 300+. It has 4 separate retard events, including n2o. I bought mine used, but I think they are still made. Check www.mrgasket.com and you should find it.

I've seen those as well, but the only place I've even seen them being sold is through Linginfelter for $165.
