Can you pick up a fitting like this at your local hardware store?

Probley not. Maybe a local speed shop. We keep them in stock here though.

It doesnt have to be a swivel, just like a 90 degree.

The ones we have are swivel.
If you have a diesel supply company in your town they may have them as well. Just a long shot.
