Help! 4 shops later & still not running

I had the waterpump replaced and at the same time they replaced the Dist assm. (optispark) it didn't run the same ever since! slight loss of pwr & hesitats during acceleration and engine surges during idle. gets worse as engine warms, found oil leaking from out of distb. assm.? is there a O ring or seal they could have
left off?..It ran fine before the wtr pmp./ dist. assm. were replaced
the oil is causing the problems. what do you think they did when they replced the dist. assm. that would cause oil to leak from it?
could it just be a bad part? I took it to 3 other shops and no-one
can diagnse the prob. I just want to know what I should tell the shop B 4 I go back. its under warranty

Struck ny the Opti-Spakr gremlins?

I feel your pain. I had replaced my opti-spark(OS), only to have it go bad on my first pass at Super Chevy ($65.00 entry), and towed the car home. It lasted 46 miles. I then replaced it AGAIN and it seems to be fine now (5000 miles later). The lack of power could be a result from ALOT of things. Lets look at it logically first. The OS was replaced, did they replace the seals in the timing cover (probably causing oil leak), How many miles are on your car? Is the ignition system up to par or does it have a few miles on it (coil/module might need replaced)? When does the lack of power occur(hot or cold, part throttle/WOT)? Are there any audible noises heard during the acceleration(pinging/detonation)? There are many more possibilities, and not enough time or space to discuss them. E-mail me with any additional questions if you like at coleb@smahummer.com Good luck!
