English as 4th language, Denver, CO?
First off I dont want to upset or insult anyone, its not my intention. But..........HOW THE ^^^^!! CAN YOU RESIDE IN THIS COUNTRY AND NOT BE ABLE TO SPEAK ENGLISH????? Ive only been here 10 months and Ive had to try and interpret 4 different kinds of languages. If you ask me, this isnt helping these people. People ask me, do I speak spanish ( Im mexican/indian) and I say no, sorry. And they get pissed. THEY DONT EVEN TRY!!?? I actually do speak spanish and russian, but why should I? Its not going to help them in the future? Im from south texas, ( and yes I can drive way better than 98% of this population), where I thought that we had a language barrier and I have to say, wow....what a difference. We ( Denver) have spanish as the first language, arabic as a second, chinese and japanese are a tie for 3rd, along with misc languages and then 4th comes english. If I were to move to france( hell no) I would learn to speak french. When asked why the hell I dont speak spanish, my answer is simple and I reply in spanish...because I dont live in Mexico. And yes I know Colorado is spanish, do we have to start using the peso?
Re: English as 4th language, Denver, CO?
I agree totally, I just moved out here last August and I'm lost sometimes because people look at me like I'm evil for speaking English. even though I speak German as well, last I knew English is the official language of the country.
BTW, most of the misc laguages are the African immigrnats speaking their different languages. see and hear it all the time on campus.

You're preaching to the choir.
In Tucson and many other cities around here there are even billboards written in Spanish.
I thought this was America! Huh?! Isn't this America?! I'm sorry, I thought this was America!
