Unhappy California long tubers inside please

I want to put long tubes on and livng in Califronia it's frowned on. How do you guys with long tubes get away or what do we have to do to be sorta legal?
Thanks,

Ask your friends if they know of a shop that will pass your car for smog. That's what I am going to do for my mids. I remember several of my friends mentioning having cars that wouldn't pass and for a "fee" the shop passed them.

Haven't had to pass smog since I put my lt's on. When it comes time to smog again. I'll most likely put my stock headers back on for the smog. I was thinking about going to a smog ref and see if I could get an excemption (my lt's have egr and air) ,but I don't think they'll let me slide on the cat movement.

I plan on going for a long tube setup soon. I was thinking of flanging 2 cats and bolting them up right to the collectors and weld the other sides to the ypipe. I think this setup would keep the cat as close to the stock location as possible on the pass side, much like the FLP's do. I think if the inspector sees all the emissions hookups and the cat is in the general area, then there probably won't be many issues in passing. Good luck.

You better hope that guys is having a peachy day. Chances are you will be going to a test only station so it might be tough. Just tell them before you even pay that you have long tube headers but still retain all the emissions hookups and CAN pass the sniffer...and see what he says. It might cost you an extra 20 err somthin....

Most techs you talk to at the state level could care less about long tubes - as long as your car can pass, many of them will overlook many non-CARB parts except LT's. It is a federal offense to relocate the cats, and a big fine or loss of license if caught in a state-sponsored sting operation.

You need to know someone and be prepared to pony-up some bucks. It also pays to keep quiet about these mod-friendly shops. Pass on only to folks you know, and keep it in the PM realm.

ya its going to be hard to pass without knowing someone. I wish they would have exceptions, for instance they should do testing to see if it will pass if moved and tell manufacturers this is how far back it can be located etc. But instead they say screw the drivers were going to make it no exceptions. You would think GM would have seen this coming and at least gave us room to play with when they put those things on. I can't wait for the day when new cars come without cats, then there will be no worry.
