Why I will never run TnT at Martin again
Why I will never run TnT at Martin again
This is how tonight went:
I get there at 6:45 and tech in.
Everyone lines up, they run 5 sets of cars, then let all 16 motorcycles and snowmobiles go. Then 5 more sets of cars and then let the 6 second cars go. The 6 second car breaks and oils the track. After 20 minutes they get it cleaned up. Then they let the bikes and snowmobiles go again. Then 5 more sets of cars and back to the fast cars. Then back to the bikes and sleds who got 10 runs, while I only got 2 before it rained at 8:40. And there were only 2 dozen cars there in line at MOST at any given time. That's two runs in two hours and the track was not even CLOSE to being packed.
Screw them, I'm going to Stanton from now on. I like martin's facilities, and I NEVER have a problem hooking unless the car in front me wet the box down, but they manage it horribly. I know they can't control the weather, but as far as I know the bikes and sleds pay the same entry fee we do. They shouldn't get preferential treatment. It cost me $15 to get in, not to mention the gas to drive there and back, the food I ate there, etc. And I got two runs.
As an aside, I did get my 12 second time slips out of the car. I ran those two runs launching off the converter, the next two I was going to run off idle to compare the difference. Never got the chance.
So, with a race weight of 3750lbs (they had the scale on tonight), and VERY hot and humid weather.. it still pulled back to back 12.9 et's
first was 12.93, second was 12.90. Mph was 106.12 and 106.10. Both 60' times were 1.89. no wheel spin, 22psi in the tires. I am guessing I could have pulled a 12.8 out of it with just playing with shift point and launching techniques, then I was going to try and drop another tenth off with some fuel and timing had the weather held out long enough. Right now I am still running stock fuel tables, and only adding 1 degree of advance over stock at 2800 rpm and above. So I am pretty sure there is room for improvement.
But, now I won't know just how far I could have taken it... this weekend it comes apart for open heart surgery.

Martin pulls this crap all of the time. I only got 2 runs in the last time I went while the bikes got 10-15. I want to go to Stanton when it cools down and I get the rear end fixed. I think with traction I should see some 12 second slips before I hook up the nitrous
Re: Why I will never run TnT at Martin again
Has anyone mentioned this to the Martin track officials or owners? It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out sleds and bikes are getting preferential treatment, but they might not be noticing it. Perhaps owners would be the way to go, as they would then educate their grid people.

I was looking for a place for some t&t this weekend and was going to try US131 (Martin) tomorrow night...guess I won't. Just wanted to get out before M9...maybe Stanton next Wednesday. Take care. Dave
Re: Why I will never run TnT at Martin again
Well, the last time at Stanton, I only got 1 run in 2 hours because cars broke in both lanes and spilled parts and oil. I'm just glad that I got one run in. It sucks when you drive all the way to the track only to get screwed around. I'm glad I didn't have to deal with so many bikes and snowmobiles though.
