Re: gears:

have been using US Strange and factory GM gears and i have not had to replace 1 yet.
Are you sure about that?

I seem to remember paying for a second set of OEM gears this summer because the first set didn't make it a week without problems.

I appreciate that the labor was free but I didn't appreciate having to pay (out of my own pocket) for another set of OEM gears when the warranty was denied for improper installation.

Of the 3, 4.10 gear swaps you have done for me, only one lasted more than a week before becoming very noisy and that set cost me over 600 bucks by the time it was all said and done.

I will say, however, that the last set is still doing well.

Haven't had Scott do my gears, but he was reccomended when I asked not too long ago. I have plans for him to do mine in March sometime. BTW Scott, did you ever get my updat e-mail I sent you a week or two ago? It was just letting you know I still planned on having you do them and letting you know what I was left to be purchased.

Since you asked...

If I had provided the gears, I would say you owe me nothing.

If the gears lasted more than a few days without getting noisy or if I had been abusive you would owe me nothing.

Since I bought them from you (based on your recommendation to use an oem part) and they got noisy the first time I gassed it, I would say you should have covered the gear warranty. Particularly when the warranty was denied for improper installation.

For example... If you had taken one of your vehicles to a shop for a repair and paid them for parts (a trans, water pump, gears, pick a repair) & labor and the part failed the first week wouldn't you expect the part to be warrantied as well as the labor.

What would you say if the shop told you... "We will warranty our transmission swap labor but you have to buy another new trans to replace the new one I sold you a week ago". And better yet... they didn't mention that part until your car was apart.

Maybe I live in some sort of fantasy world but I expect the part to be warrantied when it fails right away.

I also wanted to say this... I think you are a nice guy and you really know your stuff. I have been around enough people to know when I see a professional at work. In my opinion, you are a professional. You are meticulous about your work and take the time to do the little extras that other people don't do.

I wasn't kidding. I really do appreciate you warranting your labor. I just thought the gears should have been part of the warranty.

believe me Kevin, i wanted to hear that everything was going to be warrantied, when i was at dts i seen all types of stuff being denied warranty, that was partially the reason i left that place, customer satisfaction...
even when i first put a 3.73 gear in my stock 86 z with a 305ci. and 3 months down the road the thing started knocking, i was denied warranty and it was the shop manager who installed it.
i was irate with everyone but that didn't get me anywhere...
thats just my story dont take it in any bad way but the only gears i have seen warrantied 100% are dana and motive.
STrange, Richmond, Precision gear GM, Fomoco, all have never accepted an warranty claim when i was at DTS.

sorry kevin. thats all i can say.

Sounds like Scott did what he could. You can't really expect him to warrantee a part if the manufacturer of that part won't warrantee it.

Scott: We had talked a little about a 12 bolt for my SS, and I was wondering...I'm hearing more about people doing the Ford 8.8 transplant...?? What would you think about that?

Yea I've heard of a couple guys chopping 8.8 rears right at the pig and welding on axle tubes from a 10 bolt with the correct brake backing plates and all that. Depending on how much you get the parts though it could be done for around half of what a 12 bolt or 9inch would cost.

Hey Scott I'd be interested in this if the price was right.
