Wasn't there someone in the area that did gear swaps on the side?

Seems like I remembered reading about a friend of a board member or something that would do gear swaps for a good price.

Am I remembering that correctly? I'd like to get the 2.73s out of the drop top...

I have a local friend who works with me at work. He does the rear end setups at work too. Usually 150 bucks plus parts. And you will never guess who has the parts

Cool. I may have to give him a little business. Getting tired of the drop tops highway gears. Just debating 3.73 or 4.10 now

Also, I'll probably be giving you a holler for a price on a 4.3 motor for that blazer. It's either a blown head gasket or a cracked head/block. I need to figure out which way would be cheaper.

Scott does great work but he is in East Detroit.
I have 373 gears in both my F/Bodys. I have not had any problems with them. They only move the highway RPM's up a couple of hundred. I feel they are the best all around gears. If the car does alot of track time I would go to 410. For a car that is more street driven I would go the 373.

I am leaning toward the 3.73 but in my last car I went from 3.23 to 3.73 and wished I had gone to the 4.10. This car only sees about 10% highway time, maybe less. Evrything else is around town. I thought the 4.10 gears might be fun

I'd go with the 4.10 gears. Most of the Mustang guys have told me not to waste my time to put in a 3.73, for the minute amount of RPMs youll add to highway speed, its pointless not to go bigger. If I end up putting any upgrades on my Mustang, its going to be a 4.33 gearset.

Dale.. unless your shifting well above 6000 dont go 4.33

I dont even sell guys 4.10's with GT's unless cams are envolved. You'll be at 105mph at 6000rpm. I wasnt aware the factory head cams power any power beyond 5600 on those cars? even if you shift at 5800 youl be at 101-102 mph. So if you keep the car stock your fine. But anything more youl need to shift to 5th? And that kind of gears is worthless on the street except for 1st gear and some of 2nd.. anything after that your screwed..

over gearing is just as bad as under gearing, and is even worse when you are going from a roll..

Why bother changing gears if you're selling the car?

everything is for sale unless I decide to keep it. Understand? Clear as mud?

well, finances were real bad...everything went up for sale. They are SLOOOOOOWLY turning around and if I keep one of the 4th gens, it will be the convertible most likely. But if it sells, it sells.

Mike... Sent you a Personnel E-Mail about a job I seen in the Jackson paper!

I concur... go the 4.10's as going to a 3.73 doesn't make as much of a kick in the pants difference to make a difference, as you well know!
