Thanks to Nick and Eric at V.R.E.
My name is Angel Garcia and currently I live in Miami, Fl. Recently, I have been struggling getting the final touches done on a motor build for my 98 camaro z28 conv.
A little history... I had Nick build me a 408ci stroker for me with all the goodies about a year ago when my stock short block decided that she had enough. We were back and forth for about a few days, maybe a week or two now that I think about it, getting price quotes, parts availabilty or just answering all of my repetative questions. At the time, I might add, I was also researching/contacting other vendors/builders to see where I can get the best quality build and at the best possible price. I was honestly shocked how some builders will not give you the time of day unless you start out your conversation like "Hi, my credit card number is....."
Fast forward to now, I got the motor, had a HUGE problem with the installer down here in miami, took the car home, got it running, dynoed and found that I had an issue... ferrea springs. IMO, there are quite a few cases where ferrea dual springs were failing under normal applications. My cam is under .620 lift and the springs are rated, by ferrea, at .650. Well lets just say that after only a few months, I had a total of 7 broken springs and no absolute anwser from ferrea as for why I kept breaking springs. Everything was double checked and I just about had it. In addition, I recieved numerous pm's from members that had similar issues with ferrea and wanted to know where I was. It appears that I'm not the only one with the same problem and other supporting compaines had moved on to a more reliable spring. I would like to add that i'm in no way trying to bash on ferrea but just express my situation so as everything is clear. They are selling a product that wasn't meeting their advertised claims and I'm not the only one with this issue.
However, this isn't the point of this post....
So, after much deliberation and me getting all cut up working on the car, I contacted Nick and Erid and decided to get the car to them. They said that they had room in their shop and would be more than happy to get this done. You see, we've had enough of this problem and ferrea, being local to me, was not helping. Thus, after getting a few quotes, I decided to haul the car up to michigan. It took me two todays to get there and it was around 10p.m, friday night when I got finally into clinton township. It was a bit cold and raining. What's interesting is that before I got there, it was a nice afternoon in clinton township while I as driving in a down-pour on I-80 (I believe) across ohio. I had brought the rain with me!!!! Anyways, they also arranged for me to find a place to stay for the night, gave me directions to the nearest uhaul (rented a full size auto transport) and took the time to show me around their shop and chat after a 13 hour road trip.
I feel very much relieved that the attention I have recieved from V.R.E. has been the way it is. It is important, IMO, to not only find a qualified engine, chassis, etc... builder but find a builder that will take the time and be patient with us, build a solid friendship while delievering a quality product and not just be on the lookout for his/her next paycheck. I would recommend V.R.E. to anyone not only becuase of their skill in engine building or tech-know-how... but the great customer service that I have grown to appreciate and expect from Nick and Eric. I had a great time and I loved the drive. I wished I could of stayed a bit more, Nick and Eric offered to show me around town but I had to be back to work on monday morning.
Again, I would like to say thank you guys at V.R.E. for all of your help and for dealing with me... I know i'm a pain but when this camaro gets done.... well, i'm sure that even you guys might be a bit surprised!!!!
Respectfully,
Angel R. Garcia
