Angry Still have the same problem

Ok guys, I replaced the crank pully today to rid myself of the wobble and hopefully stop eating belts. No luck, anything above 4 grand and the belt walks off the pulley and eats itself. Anyother ideas?

is the tensioner spring functioning and free moving?
Break it down...what happens at high RPM? the belt gets warmer and expands...it spins faster, so it expands due to centrifugal force. Does the tensioner move when it needs to?

A very good question....care to ride under my hood and watch j/k I never thought of it that way Mike, but you make a good point. I guess that is the next step....new tensioner. Just kills me that it worked when we pulled it out, but now it wont work. Just dosent add up.

don't need to ride under the hood. Just get someone in there on the gas pedal or grab hold of the throttle body yourself and slowy bring the rpm up maybe 1k at a time. Check EVERYTHING, then go another 1k and repeat. See what happens. Put some safety glasses on first though

I second that it's a damn good bet that the tensioner is bad. They do wear out over time.

Usually a belt that "walks" is caused by a pulley driven by the smooth side of the belt. So make sure idler(if you have one) is ok too. Unless the bearings are about gone or way off the belt will stay in the groove. I think before you mentioned it was walking off the P/S, I'd check the smooth pulley before it(if there is one).

Pretty much what they said

sorta kidding... anyway, Q, call me tomorrow. I'll be outta work at 7. But, Melanie is coming over for a sex fest. I don't understand her.

Re: Still have the same problem

Wow, old post.

Mine ended up being the spacer on the alternator. Removed it and I was fine. Use a straight edge and see what is sticking out where it shouldnt be. Even the new laser levels would work too, wish I would have had one of those back then.
