Question No CATS in Mi = Fine?

I know that there are no emissions here, but can you get into trouble if you don't have cats?

Just wondering.

Thumbs down

If your vehicle came with them, it better still have them on if driving on the street.
This is a Federal issue superceeding state laws.

My guess is a healthy fine would be in order and reattachment of cats.

Best case scenerio Fix it ticket, worst case $250 fine & fix it ticket. The big fines are for company vehicles and the shops that remove the cats.

I have rode around without a cat for 2 years now and never been ticketed. We don't have emission checks (atleast where I am at in michigan).

I always run with my cats on. To do otherwise would be a violation of the law. Right...

There have not been emission tests in the Tri county area for a few years. There is talk about bringing it back though. Steven

If your car isn't really loud they usually won't bother you.

Being catless with cat like reflexs only requires two things.

1. Don't hammer it next to a police car.
2. Don't hammer it next to any neighbors that you like or during early morning start ups.

This is true. I take it very easy when going thru my g/f's neighborhood or my parents neighborhood. Or if I am anywhere downtown I never open it up. Stealth mode.....

Both of my Camaro's do not have cats. One has been to the EPA in Ann Arbor and some testing done with it. Is passed everything but cold start up and WOT testing. Did leave the cat housing on the pipe. As for the legal part think all that the driver gets is a fix it ticket but the shop or the person who takes it off will get a large ticket. Dont know how a police officer could say you have a working cat or not it the shell is still on the pipe.
