New drinking laws ironic?

Isn't it ironic that they are lowering the BAC to .08 yet at the same time Detroit wants to keep its bars open until 4am?

Tell me what that is going to do? Give people 2 more hours of drinking and cops 2 more of arresting drunks. Is this part of Granholm's agenda or who the hell is responsible?

2 more (twice as much) - Are they arresting drunks? Other than those that are found to be above the limit after a wreck.

I have never seen so many people drink and drive since I moved here.

My neigbour came home so drunk he passed out about the same time he put the truck in park (in his driveway). Unfortunately, his foot was still matted to the floor. He woke up about 3 hours later to find out he was still in his truck (redlining the engine).
Pulled the truck up to the rear of his driveway and could not even hit the brake fast enough - blew through his garage door at about 3:00am.

And he did not get caught????

They lowered intoxicated to .08 from .1 which sucks because they can get you on drunk driving easier but I say just don't drink and drive anyway. Also they did get rid of the .07 misdeameanor of driving while impaired, it used to be .07-.10 was impaired and 1.0 and above was intoxicated. Either way I'd rather only have 2 beers and stay under the limit than risk a drunk driving conviction.
Thats just my $.02, when I was a kid we got rear ended in my dads caprice by a drunk going 100 mph in a pickup, it wasn't a good experience.
One way to look at it is that if bars are open until 4:00 it gives people more time to sober up instead of drinking right up till 2:00 and getting kicked out and driving right away, that is if people sober up in the bar instead of drinking up till 4:00.
There is a darkside to everything.

(but my county is not enforcing it) Granholm is destroying out state!

I've got lots to say about the new .08 law.

#1 I wasn't drunk at .12, I sure as hell wouldn't even be effected at .08

#2 I can now go to jail and have my a$$ pounded in the form of $1000's of fines for 5 or 6 beers.

#3 Granholm is a ****.

#4 If .08 is considered legally intoxicated, I will vote 100% to reinstate Prohibition, its a grossly obscene overexertion of power.

Most of you that have never blown into a PBT won't understand all this, but lets put it this way, A .12 for me isn't drunk. .08 is a joke. No, I'm not an alcoholic. I don't drink much.

Granholm basically just gave police permission to hand out DUI's like they're going out of style. Why? Not because drunk driving accidents account for the majority of accidents that occur (No, in fact they are a relatively small portion when compared to other things like putting on makeup) but because, public outcry says we need to. The public is full of idiots. I'ma be a hermit one day.

I do agree that .08 isn't really drunk for most people, I've never drove drunk or even close but when I was in college (undergrad) i'd be over .10 and still win a boxing tournament, I'm pretty sure that if I could box for 30 minutes that I could have driven a car, but I wouldn't want to take the chance. I am all for keeping the drunks off of the road from hurting people but .08 instead of 1.0 your just giveing the people a reason, "oh he!! I'm legally drunk anyway my as well have a few more" Even most designated drivers have a few beers. Then on the other hand the law does make it clearly distinguishable from drunk and not drunk, if you are under .08 then you should have the motor skills to drive, some people new to drinking are effected by .10.
I think they should have kept the old law, .07 impaired, .10 intoxicated.
There are arguments for both sides, myself personally i never plan on driving if I am close to .08, its the law and I can think of much better ways to spend a couple grand.
With the holidays coming I hope everyone keeps this in mind, a few glasses of wine will put you in the evil grinches jailhouse.

Well, I think those days being gone may have something to do with the thousands of drunken idiots who don't know when they shouldnt be behind the wheel.

Just a thought

The new laws on drinking, the seat belt trap zones, and SOS fees are just part of Granholms plan to make a cash machine out of the local courts from our pockets. The local cities now have more of an incentive to bust more people as they now get a cut of the $$ so does the State police. The seatbelt fee is now $60 + and the DWI fees also went up along with a $1000/year times 2 responsability fee and then they will hit you at the SOS too. Also lowering from .10 to.08 they will NOT be inclined to drop anything around .10,.11,.12 to a .08(impaired by old law) for first timers or even seconds. So now a if ya blow a .09 your screwed you wont get dropped to an impaired which is 3 points you will get a the full 6 and most people have atleast 1 point you will get hit hard at the SOS office too. Just dont drink and drive!!!! and wear your belts .....with our cars insurance is bad enough now that seatbelt tickets have points(i think) cover your own a$$ wear it. I dont like wearing mine in the Z i think it should be my choice i do it to give them 1 less reason to pull me over. Steven

it is simple... don't drink and drive, it is your choice? get over it, lol!

wear your seatbelt, or don't that too is your choice? rules suck but oh well, if you drive then we all play the game, believe me, i hate wearing my seatbelt, except when i drag race, also i love to have a couple of beers.... simply put i don't, or my prescribed limit is no more than 1 beer per hour. i think that keeps me well within limitations.with a max of 3 beers over the course of an evening, IF i am even thinking about possibly driving.

A-Men - Like Tanner said "its your choice" - unless it endangers someone else's life!!!

People may think one or 2 beers wont make a difference - till they get that one test for a quick response and there is no doing it all over again.

I have met people that think that way and after a few beers they drive like crap!

Think about it - is it worth it???

It's been .08 in North Carolina where I am from since the 80's. Plain and simple don't have more than 2 drinks and then drive. I had a friend die due to a drunk driver who thought he was OK to drive. Don't make the same mistake.
