Need to cut better 60ft on nitto's -Help me
2001 T/A firehawk
mods: air lid;Yank ST3200 2.2 str; offroad y-pipe; cutout
With street tires average 1.99 60ft
With the nitto's at 16psi best was 1.88-1.94
How do guys cut 1.6's on Nitto's?
What rpm to launch at?
At ubly they spray water, so I try to avoid it then back up and do a decent burnout. Launching at about 1000 rpm's.
I removed the timing tricker resistor and managed a best 12.78 @ 108mph with still 3.9 degrees of knock retard. Average O2 is about .88; timing about 24 - the 3.9 at wot. So what is causing the KR? Could it be the cutout? If I got rid of the KR is it possible to run better than 12.7 with my mods?
Thanks

Gus cutting 1.6 on Nittos are doing it with more power and more suspension mods. I used to run 1.7x with heads and cam at 19 lbs with the standard suspension work. You need to get those tires good and sticky with your burn outs.
First, 16 lbs. on Nittos is most likely too low. Most people find the sweet spot for Nittos between 18 to 20 lbs. When you first get to the track, let the tires cool a bit and them to about 19.5 or 20 lbs. Make your first run and drop another .5 lbs until you get your best 60'.
Suspension is your other missing piece. Subframe connectors will help stiffen the chasis to provide a stable platform. Lower Control Arms will prevent wheel hop issues and keep the tires on the ground. A new torqure arm will also eventually help as you apply more power to the ground.
There could be some knock coming through from exhaust banging a bit. Where in the RPM range is it hitting you for 3.9 KR?
