Michigan residents! ? on windo tint!

hello all,
i am going to be getting my back window and the side windows tinted in my 98-Z next month and was wondering about the laws in michigan concerning tint.
ive heard the back window has no limit.......???
what about the sides?
and for those of you with your sides tinted, did you ever get hassled by the fuzz?
thanks!

I have a DRs note for my tint. I carry it in the car at all times along with a print out of the Michigan State Law pertaining to window tint. I generally don't get hassled too much. Devenomer has his tinted and keeps a copy of my note in the car also. Even though it is his car the law pertains to any car that I may need to be a passenger in.

no limit on back.

Side can only be done 4 or 6 inches from the top of the window. full side tinting of any shade is illegal.. trust me.. i know.. lol

My 2 cents.....if your drivin past a state trooper, roll em down. They are hardcore about it. Local cops don't seem to be that picky...knock on wood. The tint looks real dark on a white car like mine.

I have been using tint since 1985 and only been pulled over one time. I had the drivers window front and pass front down. The rear drivers and pass were up. This was in a 70 440 6pac on Gratiot. There was 3 people with me in the car. The cop told me to put my window up and then said he was going to give me a ticket. I told him he would be in court because the windows were down when he pulled me over. Everyone in the car started saying they would show up in court. he said he would get me with the window up sooner or later and walked off. I have not gotten a ticket yet. Knock on wood. I try not to street race and do the speed limit so I don't get pulled over much. Come to think of it I got pulled over on the way to M7 and he let me go. He didn't even say anything about the tinted windows.

I got pulled for mine by a state trooper. He told me that he pulled me for my side windows which were 50%. He also told me that he there WAS a limit on the back and he even showed it to me in his book.

This is what my TINT looked like at the time.

However, I just called Macomb County Sheriff and was told there is no limit on the back but that you cannot have any on the sides or front.

I had a 95 Blazer with the factory privacy glass on the back and on the side triangle windows.I had the front tinted at 15% which is close to the rear windows.I have never had any problems with that. For me 15% was just right. Not too dark and not too light. It did take a little getting used to at first when driving at night. It is worth it though. It looks so good.

Does anyone get their windshield tinted? I have seen people with it, and none of them have gotten a ticket. And how do you get a note from the doctor. One of my eyes is bad, and my doctor is cool so do you think I could get one?

Define bad...I have vision problems. Along with some others that come along with having permanately dialated pupils.

The letter is about half a page with the description of what I have and what I need to drive safely. Along with my vision waver I had to get (from the State Surgeon General and Senators) to join the Army...I don't get hassled once I get pulled over. Of course it only applies when it is very sunny out...but hey...I can't predict the weather.

Well the last time I checked MI tint laws (the last time I got pulled over for tint) it stated that the rear windows (behind the drivers head i.e. rear window and rear door windows of a 4 door car or xtra cab truck) could be as dark as you want providing that there are 2 outside rear view mirrors on the vehicle.

No problem for us with F-Bodys.

The winshield and front side windows can only have a 4" strip across the top and even that little strip can only be 35%.

I had a State Trooper pull out a tape measure and check if my windshield strip was over 4 ". I got a fix it ticket and just cut the windshield strip to 4" and removed the 20% side windows and they wrote the ticket off.

Then I went home and tinted the side windows with 5% the very same day.
