MAJOR collector car auction in Lapeer this Sat.
80 collectable cars and motorcycles to be auctioned off at no reserve from a private collection in Lapeer Sat, June 9 2007. The owner of them owns a metro area Pontiac dealer and the 79 and up Pontiac cars are "in the wrapper". A few pre-war cars should fetch over $500,000 each. Visit rmauctions.com for more info.
Even the Fieros will probably bring $30,000. He is selling 80 of his 200 cars because I heard his wife wasnt interested in keeping the collection after he passes. He figured lets sell some now to see what they bring and who buys them. Absent from the sale is the 20th anniversary turbo TA and the 30th ann. LS1 WS6 TA that I know he owns. Can you say "until death do us part"?
For anyone thinking of going to spectate: You need to buy a catalogue to get in. The catalogue admits 2 and costs $80. A bidders pass is $150 and you must have confirmed line of credit or bank letter stating your available funds, (or just show them your suitcase full of cash). They are trying to keep the rif-raf out but I am determined to go. :-)
ALL of the Trans Ams and Fieros have under 100 miles on them. I would think that 88 Fiero GT with available T-tops will bring over $25000 with all the money that will be there. I'm not gonna pay $80 to spectate. I'm willing to pay $40 for half a catalogue price but I cant find anyone willing to pay $40 for the other half (that would admit 2 people).
Well, I decided I had to go and bit the bullet and shelled out $80. HUGE prices were paid for more than a few cars. Top seller was a Duesenburg that Howard Hughs once owned that went for $1.35 million. A Murphy bodied V16 Caddy went for $970,000. About 15 cars in the $400,000-$600,000 range, including a 53 Vette that was listed in the catalogue as valued at $125,000 to $175,000 that went for $400,000. A 65 triple black GTO tri power 4 speed car brought $260,000 and that is believed to be a new world record. The 88 Fiero GT only brought $20,000. These are hammer prices and dont include the 10% buyer premium. Rob Meyers of R&M Auctions was all smiles as it was a VERY successful auction.
