LS1 edit in south central MI
LS1 edit in south central MI
Yo F-Body freaks,
I just moved to Battle Creek and am looking for someone who has LS1edit for a '01 car. I am thinking Kalamazoo, Lansing, Jackson, Battle Creek area. I would like to do the stuff in one day as I don'y have a trailer - I would also like to be part of the process as I plan on buying LS1edit in the future w/ more mods. A dyno would be helpful as well. I need the basic things to start with - raise rev limiter, top speed limiter removed, delete rear O2's, turn on fans earlier, etc. Maybe a little fuel map tuning. I already butt in the seat/G-Tech tuned with a MAFT so it runs strong already. Also I am poised to order Hooker LT's and Y-pipe from Summit (free shipping, no tax, 1-day away, good price, etc.) - does any place locally sell'em that is competitive? I would rather support a F-body tuner/shop and pay $50 bucks more then contribute to the all powerful Summit machine, but..... Want to install the headers before the tuning obviously.
Any street racing in the area? I came from the flatland of central IL where there was nothing. Appreciate any help, Thanks.

Welcome to "Kellogg's Creek"
Don't know about ls1 edit around here, but there is a dyno on helmer over by the airport. Sound like a decent shop, but I haven't been there yet.
Isn't LS1 Edit vin locked like lt1 edit was? I haven't looked into it much yet since I haven't modded mine yet.
Summertime, the place to be is Taco Bell on Beckley Rd across from the mall. usually from 5pm til 9 or so. There's other gathering later in the evenings after that, but you'll have to ask around when you are there to find out where

Yes I know LS1edit is ECM locked - I am looking for a shop or someone out of their garage who has the $20K+ multi VIN set-up. I want to gain some familiarity with it before I buy so I know all the little things it can do to make the car as drivable as stock - (i.e. the LT/ST trims and learn blocks, etc.) I have a friend who has LT-1 edit on his 396 LT-4 and he is stumbling his way through tuning. I want to avoid the stumbling part and be able to walk (not run!) The dyno over on Helmer - does it have a wide band O2 sensor? Dynojet or a Mustang dyno. I think I know where it's at cuz of all the house hunting that I did before I moved - actually put a bid on a house that was 1/4 mile from where I think the shop is at. Has anyone heard of a place called AutoMotion?? (I think) Heard on a radio station out of Lansing that this shop has everything - dyno, speed shop, parts, etc. The comerical said that they even offer financing for turbos, blowers, nitrous, etc. Let me know if anyone knows about this place. Thanks for the help guys -hope to see some F-body comaradery on the streets instead of the fart can imports with neon blowing rice on everything. They do a good job of sticking together - guess it's the herd instinct that if they stay together a lion won't pick them off
Still waiting on header price quotes - summit about $775 ceramic and Y-pipe included. Later....

Welcome to the area!!
I live in Portage but work in Battle Creek.
I believe the place Mike was talking about is Boost Unlimited that has the Dyno. They are located at 20th & Gougac. I don't know what type of dyno it is yet, but I plan on taking my car there in the spring to do some tuning. I have LT-1 Edit so I am hoping that they will have the wideband O2 sensors for tuning purposes as I have a NX wet kit that will need to be tuned.

Anyway, would be a good time. We could go get a tune, call up the east side boys and maybe go out for lunch or something. Let me know if you want to do it, I will be planning for sometime in May.Q
Yes sir, that sounds like a good time.
Greg DEFINITELY knows what he is doing. I had him do a dyno tune on my car about a year ago before I put the Spintech muffler on, back then the car put down 325rwhp and I picked up a solid 3 mph with the addition of the muffler. I sent Greg an email about a price quote for installing the street twin and the Racetronix fuel pump sometime in March/April. I am just waiting to hear back from him.
I'll try and see if I can get the NX kit put in by then, so maybe you can witness my 500rwhp pull

Hey just my 2 cents... I bought LS1 Edit and unless your going to do a lot of tuning it may not be worth the dollars. If I were you I'd do your mods then go see Kirk at Automotive Performance Engineering in detroit area or Greg at Detroit Speed Works.
Both these guys have a dyno and LS1 shop version and know their stuff.
The other thing I'll tell you is that without a sensor scanner tool like autotap or others you'll have a hard time doing the real fine tuning.
If your wanting to learn the edit tool the manual that comes with it sucks.
Like I said my 2 cents.
Good luck.

I do plan bigger and better engine mods as time goes on - i.e. some CNC'd LS6 (or the new LS7) heads, a stroker or all bore kit, possibily N2O, etc. So I want LS1edit so that I can do the tuning myself rather than having to bring the car to a shop or chassis dyno every twice a year. I was just hoping to find someone who has the shop version of LS1edit and is willing to spend some time with me going over the fine tuning stuff. Yes I need a scan tool as well. What's the poll on the most useful one out there - Datamaster, AutoTap, LS1 Scanmaster, that new Diablo, ??? I like the compact size of the Scanmaster but I'm worried that I will out grow it's use quickly. It's also pricey compared to a software program that could loaded on a laptop. Then again with the laptop you need the expensive cable.....blah,blah. Guys out there with scanners how about some feedback.
Has anyone been to the Boost Unlimited place? Do they know what they are doing with a dyno? Still waiting on an answer about that "AutoMotion" place in Lansing. Thanks for the help.

As far as a scan tool your best bet would be with Autotap. Datamaster is only for OBD I, the scanmasters don't record anything, and I don't know anything about the Diablo.
I haven't been to Boost Unlimited yet, so I don't know if they know what they are doing. But the guys that own it have quite a reputation around Battle Creek for their twin turbo VW beetle that still has the four cylinder in it and it runs 10.2's from what I have heard.
