ok, I have been with nextel now for 3 years, logging over 15000 minutes of talk time, and probably 3 times that in direct connect minutes.

I finally need to break down and buy a new phone. The antenna broke off mine, the rubberized coating came off (I700plus contractor phone), and it's overall getting pretty rough.

I went to the Nextel stealer, er dealer, and tried to buy another phone. The prices they show on the phones are already high enough, but since I am not a new subscriber, they want at minimum $100 more.

Now all this time I have been with them has been month to month. When I signed up, they didn't require a contract. OK, so I offered to sign a contract. 1 year or whatever, figure in my line of work, EVERYONE has them and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Will they give me a discount for signing the contract? NO! I will essentially be a new "locked in" customer for them, since right now I could shut off my service at anytime and they have nothing they can do about it. If they gave me a deal on the phone, I'd at least be locked into them for another year, not to mention all of their penalties if I did decide to cancel early.

The only thing they will offer me is $50 trade in for my phone, in the form of a credit to my bill. Well, my company pays my bill now, so how does that help me?

The only way for me to get a decent price on a phone is to buy a used one and just switch my service over.

So, anyone have a nextel phone they aren't using anymore? I know they are on eBay, but the last one I bought on there (for my wife) was supposed to be a i1000plus. When I got it, it had over 10000 minutes on it, and was i1000 guts in an i1000+ housing. The guy sent me the wrong charger, and when I tried to send it back to him the package was returned as non existent address. The backlighting went out with 1 month, and the flip section broke off not long after.

So, I come here..hoping someone local may have one. At least I trust my Michigan F Body brethren to not screw me on this sort of thing. Not to mention, I may be able to see the thing in person before sending off $$.

Anyone able to help? I know that we have a new nextel salesman among us, but if his hands are tied by corporate policy, then I've already been that route...

 

i have a i1000 plus that needs a new speaker..i might be able to dig up the charger. the speaker quit after it got wet one time but it works perfect and i dont think there is any scrachtes on it. i ended up biting the bullet and forking out 200 dollars for the cheapest nextel they had because i already had a contract with them. if you to check in seeing how much a new speaker is you can have the phone for free seeing as i dont use it anymore because when i was moving i had to have a phone and didnt not have time to wait for them to fix it. im in the k-zoo area. let me know if you want it

Or you can take the phone, get the insurance and send it in and get a new one for $35. I'm sending my i85 in on Monday because a lot of buttons dont work. I guess thats what happens when you drop/kick/throw the phone everywhere. I wonder how my new i90 will hold up. Brad, when do you start again?

 

SINISTER, are you sure you can call in a stolen or lost phone and get a different model? If so then I've got an i1000plus that might just come up missing for a new i90. Or is it a deal where you have to pay the difference? I'm sure it is, but figured I'd ask. Thanks.


TIMBERWOLF, I was over in Battle Creek this Tuesday and forgot all about calling you and setting up a time to check out those parts. I will be back over there sometime next week for a couple of days. What days would be good for you? I'm looking at heading that way about Tues or Weds and like I said will probably be over there for 2 days (g.f. goes to school over there). And whats up with the punk kids over there? I was pulling into the Blockbuster across the street from the Square Lake Mall and there were a group of kids hanging out in the parking lot next to it. I think there were 2 lowered mustangs (one was balck and had a really ugly blue vinyl design) and 4 ricers. Anyway when I was headed to blockbuster they were all stareing really hard, and when I came back through they were throwing their hands up and a couple of them were flipping me off. Just wondering if you got the same kind of welcome when you go through town? Anyway this was supposed to be a short message and I turned it into a short story so I'll let ya go. No, you cant do it for a new model. I tried already. I told them that instead of sending me another $150 i85, just knock that off the price of an i90, but they wouldnt go for it. Just take the i1000+, get the insurance, get a new i1000+ and sell it on e-bay for $50 or so.

 

I think the i1000 plus is discountinued. If you use insurence they will give you a refurbished (aka regurgitated) or a phone of equal or lesser value
