I am looking at a car 2001 SS, supercharged. The car put down 450RWHP and has only 9,000 on the car, SPOTLESS.

The car does have a check engine light and is showing the following code:

check engine code - #420 - emissions leak.

What can this mean and how worried should I be. The code was reset using a scan tool but the code popped back up.

simplest possibilty(and most likely), gas cap not on tight(or bad)

worst case(unlikely), PCM


all it means is the PCM sees a leak in the evaporative emissions(gas fumes from tank and refueling)recovery system

 

Im pretty positive the code 420 is a universal code about thecat. convertor effeciency. does the car have cats on it? does it have o2 sims? if it has cats on it and no o2 sims, you can borrow a pair (or just buy a pair) and plug them in to the back two 02 sensors and the code should go away.
bill, call my cell tomorrow midday and I'll check exactly what that code is for. and tell you what the poss.s are that can set that code. anything emissions related, can be programed out worst case scenario.
