The way I look at it is we have a LS1 rear wheel drive car to hold us over till they come up with something better. Something is better than nothing.
Kev I allway found it funny that the 64 GTO was the first muscle car. Chevy was using the 409 with dual quads for several years earlier. I know the 63 Imp SS was not a mid size car but it kicked butt and looked good doing it. A friend had one and this thing would sing the tires to 75 MPH. There wasn't much for tires back then tho.

Is it just me or do you think its somehow 'wrong' for the new GTO not to have a hood scoop but the Sunfire AKA Econo ****box only a few steps up from a Pinto to have one?

I have said that several times. i can't beleive they are going to produce a GTO with out the hood scoop. That was the GTO trade mark.

OMG some of you need to chill. Did they say they absolutely were not going to produce a hood with a scoop? Im sure ASC will come up with something, and if they dont, the aftermarket will.

I wish they had not named it the GTO, so all you "carburator & 4wheel drum brake" lovers would stop whining.

This is an exellent car, with a great blend of styling and performance. Yea its from australia, so what, half of that car has delphi written all over it. And most american cars get parts from overseas anyways, nothing is 100% american anymore, ecxept assembly in most cases.

Stop whining about how it doesnt deserve to be called a GTO, at least GM is going to offer a coupe with nice looks in a V8 rwd, 340hp to boot. I'm guessing that HP will come from a slightly hotter cam, something like an 01 z06 maybe (.525) or similar. With a few bolt ons this thing should outrun a C5 and lay *** to mustangs.

I dont know about you guys but I am so sick of fwd grand ams and grand prixs', this is the best thing to happen to pontiac in ahwile.

Hey theres no need for that crap. Giving your opinion is just fine.

Yes i disagree. I like the car. The people that dont like it take offense to the fact that its called the GTO, that was my point. There will never be %100 american car anymore.
What I am tired of is people arguing over a lost cause.

Yea good one. About american as you can get, built in Canada, with a trans from Mexico.

John chill bro everyone has the right to say what they feel. Some will always like it and some won't. This is a forum and that is what it is all about.
Kevin easy bro have a couple of beers and and relax. I don't care were a car is built as long as it is rwd and has some *****. I like the 350Z. That is a sweet looking car. They should put a 28 behind the Z.

Wasnt meant to be a personal attack or anything. All my point was that some really take offense to the GTO name, thats why they should have named it something else. It could have been ALOT worse though, they could have slapped that name on a fwd v6.

Everyone has an opinion, and that was mine.

new gto

Lutz simply saw a cheap and fast way to bring Pontiac a muscle car. The plant only has additional capacity of 18000 units, so GM can put some good profit in it. We are part of the world economy now so GM has to look at all its resources for new products. Bob Lutz= no more body cladding. He wants cars to look like skin tightly stretched over a frame. No t-tops or convert for the GTO, but I bet a functional ram air hood is in the works. The new Grand Am is going to look like the C6 concept car and the new Sunfire finally has the reverse lights where they belong and not in the rear bumper.

Talking

John... I menat North American!! They used to be made here, anyway!!! I guess that must have been when they had carbs and ignition points.

I got too upset with being called a WHINER! I should't have let my emotions take charge. I'm just a guy who grew up in the GTO heyday and hate to see the name slandered

My BAD, John... I apologize!

Went down to the Auto Show yesterday and looked at all the vehicles for about 6 hours. But I really didn't see anything that really turned my crank. I did like the "SS" concept but GM in their infinite wisdom won't do anything with it. I may be the only one on this board but, I also liked the Dodge Magnum. What a great family truckster that would make. The GTO looked "OK" but to be honest, I still like my 95 Z28 better, dummy hood scoops and all. Like Kevin and some of the older guys including myself, who grew up with the old GTOs and the rest of the true American muscle cars, its really hard for me to look at the Monaro and think of it as a GTO. Oh well, maybe I'm just too old (50) and need to open my thinking a bit. With only 18,000 GTOs produced a year, the dealers are going to get sticker plus for these cars. I for one, don't pay sticker plus for anything. I don't know about you guys but, I keeping my 95 until death do us part. This year I'm putting my 71 Rally Nova back on the road. 4 bbl carburetor, 4 wheel drum brakes and all. Peace.
