Lansing ,MI and surrounding areas
I'd like to have the Lansing area folks meet at a restaurant for dinner on some evening in early July. I'm pretty much unavailable until then. I'd even wash the car for the occasion!
p.s. I cruised the Gut this last weekend, and had someone shouting at me, saying:
"FINALLY! There's a Trans Am! First one of the night! Where are all the Trans Ams??"
It was true, I counted only five of them, including mine: A '75, a '77, my '84, a beat-up '83, and a fourth-gen LT1 convertible.
For comparison, there were two '70 Challengers, a '71 Challenger, about five '64-'67 Chevelles, one Pontiac T-35, and dozens of A-bodies of various markings.
One of the more interesting cars that was there was a stock appearing Chevette with fender flares and Chevette tires. Under the hood was nothing but a steering box and a big black fuel cell. In the rear hatch area was a 455 Olds Toronado powertrain. Theré weren't any wheelie bars, but I bet with the right tires, that car could scrape rubber off the track surface for a whole quarter mile.
So, there ARE cars out there, though I have often complained that this town is an automotive wasteland. I think it's a Meridian Township / East Lansing/ Delta Township problem, though, because there seems to always be something interesting on the street in Holt.
You are right about lack of F-cars on the road: To tell you the truth, in ten years of living here, I have only once had the opportunity to line 'em up at a stoplight.
I think most of the F-cars in Michigan are found on the I-75 corridor from Detroit to Bay City.

In fact, I wont go to Jolly/Cedar anymore because I don't like getting flushed out of there each time I show up. So, I bought me an 8-foot by 14-foot movie screen, and started at looking at ways to put together a cruise location here in Haslett where cars can hang out, have hot dogs, and watch an outdoor movie.
Unfortunately I cannot do anything that gets advertised because of township ordinances and the hoops required thereof. I still want to do it, but I need a lot of help with things like:
$100 application fee, and a township assembly application that includes an event and site plan,
$500K liability insurance policy, $350K property insurance policy, security fencing, participant tickets, bathrooms, and more. A major PITA that can't be done by one person: It can only be handled by a car club or organized group.
I do have a site sponsor, by the way: Vision Collision on Haslett Road. They will host the event and open their facilities for us, if I can get folks to help me pull it off.
I envision a cruise site that stays cool, and runs from 6 PM to midnight. A place where we don't get hassled by the police because they are participating in it as well. There's probably room for about a hundred cars, maybe 150.

Of course, the police officer didn't pull me over çause he probably wet his pants laughing at me
I dont think people around here care if we meet, businesses even, so long as if people bring food they throw it away.. Nobody races around in the parking lot or the streets.. And we just respect their property. Thats the big problem, people ****ing around. I wont go to Jolly/Cedar meets but for a couple minutes to say hi to some people because last time I was out there two high school ricer ****** drag raced a crappy S10 and a Saturn in the parking lot while LPD drove by. Dumbasses.
We should try meeting over in like the walmart parking lot that just got built -- I dont think they are 24/7 and I doubt that anyone would have a problem with that so long as we respect their property.
Does anyone know any local business owners/managers? Thats the best way to go -- find someone who knows someone and ask/let them know that we want to use it to hang out.

The cops simply tell the problem (us) that the owners of the property have requested that we not use their property in that manner, which might or might not be the truth.

By the way, Kevin Cosik of Vision Collision has been very enthusiastic, and has done great work on my Minivan and Jeep. I'll probably have them re-do the whole Trans Am for 2006.
