my key fob wont unlock my doors or lock them but the horn honk works, i just bought the car and its a 1996 camaro ss. the locks work manually with the switch, but drives me nuts because the horn goes off because of the key fob. please help!

 

you need a new key fob. they wear out all the time. we normally charge .5 hour, but its really easy to do. if you come to my dealership to buy the fob, I'll program it to your car for you for free. just for being a new member of this site.

But that doesn't make sense. If it makes the horn beep it's working and talking to the car. I would think that the problem is in the BCM???

 

is that a NEW fob? if so then yeah.

but Im taking it as he meant its the orig. fob, and thats the way they all go bad. the contacts inside the fob quit working. the "button" contacts. we have a tester here at the shop (GM TOOL) that test RF output and you can hit ea. button and it will beep when it has any signal output. usually its the unlock button since people use the unlock button the most.

of if they quit working alltogether then the batt. conn. tab inside is broken ans when you open it it will be obvious that the "connection" tabs are b roken from the ckt board.


BTW, Ive NEVER seen a bcm or remote control door lock reciever have some funtions only and not all or none.
