I no longer fear the C5
Jeez, I got in 3 little pissing contests on the way home from the late show tonight (on the freeway). The first car wasn't very interesting and I don't even recall the make after my second encounter...
I come up to this C5 Corvette and he guns it so I do also. He had gunned it first and put about a car and a half on me, then I caught up to be about even with his rear bumper and from then on we were dead even the whole way up to about, well, a lot if you know what I mean. Dead even, no gain or loss on position whatsoever.
I think he may have had an aftermarket exhaust which is pretty much all I have so far.
Dang, that car is several hundred pounds lighter is it not? and a hotter cam? I was shocked I hung with him. I think I may have caught him at the begining because I had the inside of a curve at the begining then the road straightened out.
After that, an S2000 rolled up next to me, then backed off
. Then a 300ZX that looked heavily modded (or at least riced
) tried me. They did pretty well, but no contest.
Wow, a C5. Sorry guys for blathering on about it, but I just had to tell someone who could appreciate it.

2001 and up LS1's have the same cam, corvette or F-Body. Pre '01 the F-body has a "better" cam.
The cam change in '01 was to a more low end torque cam that also makes less pollution, therefor eliminating the EGR system.
I could be wrong but thats what I have read from the boards.

The 2 vettes that were at dyno day at Detroit speedworks were under 300 rwhp. They were both 02s with about 2000 miles on them and both were A4s with optional 3.15 gears. Both had aftermarket induction systems and cat back exhaust. They dynoed in the 280-290 range. Not real good numbers and part of the reason I sold my 02 C5.
